The Hybrid
1: A World Awaits

Currently being revised. 73,812 words.

You realize, of course, that you don't know everything. It is possible that somewhere, in the black of the unknown, there is more. On the other hand, I have no way to prove the existence of the intangible, especially if it is not felt, but please, give me the benefit of the doubt... just for a while.

The world is much bigger than you suppose.

In the end, of what can anyone be certain? So little. Our brief existence affects so small a fraction of this universe once perfect and fallen to chaos, once solitary but now broken. The universe incomplete. Similarly, we were once only one species, the humanoid. Now, separated from each other, their gene pools narrowing, peoples dying, they have not only lost certain abilities but most potential as well; for the survivors, who might mingle their blood once again, are separated by worlds.

Those whose eyes are open, mostly children, often find tunnels leading from one dimension to another. Others have developed technology allowing them to create and collapse such tunnels whenever they so desire. Still, it is easy to lose someone between all the portals and world hopping. Sometimes too easy, sometimes not easy enough...

I could explain all of this to him. So why would he only want to know my name?

The beginning of a wild Science Fiction race toward one young man's struggle with faith, identity, and the will to survive.

Praise for The Hybrid:

"Wonderful!"

"It's a great and interesting idea. The story seems to be well-developed as I can tell from just this one chapter. It's fairly unique to have fantasy and 'Christian' writing in the same story. You seem to do it well... A good read; keep it up."
--Ken Prince

"The Winchesters are fighters to the end. They won't go down easy. But each one is also a unique character. Carv strikes me as the unassailable mountain. Cam is a warrior with a one-track mind. Steph is still somewhat naive and innocent. And Char is too weak to do much fighting, but he shows his spirit by running... He's got the mental endurance... What engages me is struggle on the part of the characters. Surmounting impossible odds kind of thing."

"I have to say I'm finding your story very intriguing so far - especially your style of writing Christian Sci-Fi in a way that's both extremely believable and high quality! You have a great gift for realistic setting and you don't shy away from the tougher situations that just make up life. I really admire that, especially since it can be really tough to talk about those issues at all.
I'm completely blown away by how developed your world and characters are, on all levels! It's so much fun to look at your visual art, your background information, quizzes, and the story itself simply because you have so much to offer; the storyline and characters gain a great deal of depth when explored in so much media and it's obvious through all of this that you're extremely talented.
I guess I also wanted to write to encourage you and to tell you that I think you're extremely brave and also very eloquent in sharing your faith. I am also a Christian ... and I really admire your passion to share Christ through your creativity (and all its various outlets!). I haven't managed to read all of your writing yet, but what I have is extremely well done and very fun to explore and imagine. I can't wait for some free time to sit down and focus on the text, but what I've seen so far is great.
And... yes... that's really all. I just wanted to write and say, great job!"

"To be honest, I see a lot of promise... Your imagery is artful. It can be envisioned easily by those who read it."
--Kaiyoro

"I love how long and descriptive [Chapter Two] is. It really sets a steady mood... It's a wonderful read. I like the looming mystery of who the mother is, who her children are, and where in the universe the story might be taking place."
