Addendum

A good number of years have passed since the sculpture works of the arches and vertical walls in the main aisle of the church were nearing their end, and those in the side naves and choir were begun. The next intended embellishment project was to be focussed on the concrete dome that had been completed in 1970. The Dominican Community, acting on artistic and professional advice, decided to have a stone covering for the internal part of the dome. This could then be sculptured in a style that fitted with the church internal dcor. The work was once more entrusted to Emanuel Cini who produced and worked out the architectural designs on the Ionic style. The end result would effectively produce the style of the dome in perfect harmony with that of the church. The whole project took over a span of six years to complete; it was finished in March 2002. The dome was uncovered, blessed and inaugurated on October 4th of the same year. The whole embellishment projects, initiated in 1990 in the main aisle of the church and finished off with the completed internal stone covering of the dome, were undertaken on the initiative of the undersigned with the backing and support of the religious community. The parish lay community and numerous other patrons, who visit the church in great numbers especially at weekend evening Masses, contributed in no small way to the realisation of the works. Twelve years ago, the undersigned set up a special fund that was to see to the heavy financial burden needed to cover the global expenses. Still, it is to be stated that every single cent was raised with the priceless help of specific sponsors and the effective contributions of the laity in general, causing the barest minimum of financial obligations on the Dominican community at Sliema.
