As a young boy Brown never had a specific dream of becoming an astronaut, he thought it would be a good job, but he didn't think it was possible. "I thought they were moviestars and I just thought I was a normal kid." Brown lived to explore, to do research, to find new cures and he was fulfilled working in the labatory aboard Columbia. |

Colonel Michael Anderson prepared early in life for being an astronaut and when we went to schools to talk to children he would say "Whatever you want to be in life, you're training for it now." Mich was a perfect choice for the payload commander, organized, someone you could really count on, A gifted leader. We all loved to see him laugh...when he laughed, we laughed with him even harder. |

"laurel Clark was a physician and a flight surgeon who loved adventure, loved her work, loved her husband and her son, a friend who heard larel speaking to Mission Control said there was always a smile in her voice, 'Life,' she said, 'continues in a lot of places and life is a magical thing." |

Israel Air Force Colonel Ilan Ramon was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in June 1954. Ilan Ramon turned to me and said "how does one mark the sabath in space? with every ninety minutes another sunset, every ten and ahalf hours is a sabath, Jerusalem we have a problem! but Ilan taught us a powerful message, no matter how fast we are going, no matter how important our work we need to pause and think about why we are here on Earth." |

Columbia was hardly a thing of beauty, except to us for those who love and cared for her, she was often badmouthed for being a little heavy in the rear end...but many of us can relate to that. Many said she was old and past her prime...still she had only lived a barely quarter of her design life. Columbia had a great many missions ahead of her, she along with her crew had her life snuffed out in her prime, just as her crew has, Columbia has left us quite a legacy...Hail Columbia." |
