| EATING DISORDER COUNSELING: Initial consultation for health and eating disorder history, goal setting and development of a working therapeutic relationship. Goals of follow-up appointments include education of metabolic rate, establishment of consistent meal and snack times, improvement in variety of foods, basic nutrient education, elimination of medical symptoms due to malnourishment, restoration of a healthy body weight within estimated target range and return to normal eating habits with little or no distorted beliefs and attitudes. CHILDHOOD OBESITY COUNSELING: Initial consultation for health and weight history, identification of specific factors contributing to the problem and weight goal assessment. Goals of follow-up appointments include recognizing the dangers of adult diets for children, healthy snacking and meal planning development, an increased emphasis on 'fun' physical activity, boosting the child's self-esteem and building lifelong, healthy attitudes about food. Most follow-up sessions will include the child's parent(s). WEIGHT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM: Initial consultation for health and weight history, diet history and weight goal assessment. Goals of follow-up appointments include understanding and determining set-point weight, eliminating eating habits which promote weight gain, identifying and overcoming emotional eating and legalizing all foods to fit into a healthy eating plan. Remeber, this is a non-diet approach to weight management; therefore, the goal is to obtain optimal health through nutrition, not weight loss. (Mild to moderate weight loss usually does occur naturally, but is not the focus of the program) PRENATAL NUTRITION PROGRAM: Initial consultation for pre-pregnacy health history and eating habits, and identification of high-risk pregnancy issues (i.e. gestational diabetes, pregnancy and eating disorders, anemia, and rapid or insufficient weight gain during gestation) Goals of folllow-up appointments include proper meal planning for optimal fetal and maternal health, nutrition education for soon-to-be-moms, and medical nutritional therapy for any existing high risk conditions. ADOLESCENT NUTRITION COUNSELING: Initial consultation for assessment of problem eating behaviors at home and specific outcome goals of nutrition counseling. Goals of follow-up visits are with the child and/or parent depending on specific eating issues to be addressed and are designed to assist in normal eating and healthy nutrition throughout the child's life stages. Examples of client issues could include children who are picky eaters, parents dealing with constant battles at the dinner table, or parents who wish to understand what normal eating for their child is and how to implement healthy eating practices at home. |
