Peepers Memorial
January 2001-March 11, 2002
Peepers was the very first mouse I ever owned.  She was a beautiful, chubby, black and white broken marked mousie.  I purchased her for $3.99 when she was only 4 weeks old.  She got the name, Peepers, because whenever my hand would come near her she would squint her eyes almost shut, but wouldn't run.  I used to tell her not to shut "those pretty peepers" and the name stuck.  She was a very timid baby mouse, but soon learned to love most any treat I gave her.  Cracking sunflower seeds was an art to her.  I would watch in amazement when she stripped the shell in mere seconds.  She would also come to any hand that held a cheerio and would shove your hand with her little paw if you held it too tight.  She tugged and pulled until the cheerio was clearly all hers and then inhale it.  Peepers shared her large 20 gallon aquarium home with her only pal, Miss Pearl.  Miss Pearl often fell victim to Peepers' tendency to steal her treats, but nonetheless, she loved her anyway.  Peepers enjoyed grooming Miss Pearl to make her coat shiny and neat even if Miss Pearl didn't agree.  Although Peepers stole food and did become rather overweight, her death was due to a tumor she developed on her right side.  She remained a very happy mouse throughout her last days with us.  Miss Pearl and I will both miss her bright little eyes, but she left us with many memories.
