Sutton Upsets WCS
Here's my take on last night's game...

The Sutton Sammies (15-6) took on the Whitinsville Christian Crusaders last night in Whitinsville. For those of you who do not know, SHS and WCS are the Co-Champions of the DVC. Not only was last night's game a very important quarter-final playoff game, but it also was to determine the real DVC Champion. As you might already know, Sutton did win in regulation. The final score was 60-47. Sutton won by 13 points. The top 3 scorers were: Junior Ryan Fattman with 19 points, Senior Jim Setterlund with 18 points, and Senior Todd Petkus with 13 points. All of them played very well. Petkus had a number of rebounds as well.

In the first half, Sutton started the game very well. Everyone played aggressively. Basket after basket, we had the lead. We led at halftime 27-16. The closest Whitinsville Christian ever came to us was within 6 points. The lead went back and forth, but we were able to finish the game by 13 points. (60-47) Good effort by all. You could tell that Sutton was playing hard, and it paid off.

The Whitinsville Christian Crusaders played a good game. Senior David Zylstra had 14 points. They finished their season 18-3. (2 losses to us, and 1 to North Brookfield) The Sutton Sammies will now go on to the Semi-Finals at W.P.I. to face Worcester Voke, on Wednesday March 6th, at 6:00pm.

Sutton obviously upset Whitinsville Christian. I know for a fact that both the players, as well as many of the fans went into that playoff game confident that they would kill us. I have visited the message boards on masslive.com several times. There is always a lot of trash talking on there, especially schools (not to name anyone... Nipmuc) telling us how much we suck, and that we just don't have the 'horses' this season. I would just like to say to all of you that are surprised and appalled by this win: "Told you so". Because I knew that we could do it. Also, that trash talking will get you nowhere. I'm not saying that I know many WCS players/fans have gone on there and dissed us, but this is for any of you that have. Most of the posts I read were 'unknown' anyways. We were confident that we could win and make it far into the playoffs this season. Which we already have. I, for one, at least wanted to see the team make it to W.P.I. this year, or maybe even the finals, even if we didn't win. I am very proud of the Sammies after defeating the Crusaders last night. All of the players on the team put in good effort, good attitudes, and played very well. Congratulations to all the guys. I am definitely proud to represent Sutton. I am also glad that I was able to be a part in the team this season as well. For those of you who have read my 'info' and may have visited my website in the past, then you already know that I am one of the managers for the team. I have been with the guys all season and seen what goes on. All of their hard work has paid off.

I also want to send out a special Thank You to all of our fans. I don't know what we would have done with out you guys this season. You were at every game to cheer the team on. Thanks a lot!
