Amazingly enough, he does not know how to use "Pay Day" which is an attack that generates money, which our trio of Team Rocket is very short of. Meowth claims this is due the fact that he used so much energy learning how to talk. So there is no easy money for the group who often has to do odd jobs to generate money for their extravigent spending (on things other than food, no doubt) and mechas. Meowth has no known family. His first memories consisted of being alone and hungry. He eventually wandered into a camp of some sort and ended up in trouble when he tried to eat baseballs. As he's left dangling from a tree, he ends up watching a movie "direct from Holywood" about a Meowth who eats fried chicken and ice cream (the American version dubs it as "That Darn Meowth"). Determined to get good food, Meowth breaks free of his bonds and hitches a ride to the large city. He soon finds out that life isn't easy there either but luckily(?), he is accepted into a gang of street Meowths lead by a Perisan.
He soon falls in love with another Meowth named Meowzie (Madonna in the Japansese version; or as Nyase would say: Madon-nya.) . However, he's turned down because she was the pet of a wealthy -and hideous- woman and he was just a miserable street cat and he could never satisfy her needs as a non-human. From that moment on, Meowth was determined to be human and he learned, at great costs, to walk on his hind legs and to talk human talk. But it was all in vain because then his object of adoration turned him down yet again, regarding him as a freak.
So young Meowth leaves the town behind, determined to become the most powerful "freak Meowth" in the world. And since the first word he learned was "Rocket", he joined Team Rocket. Cute, huh? Meowth is often the most practical member of Team Rocket, thinking about "what ifs" and whatnot. He's very ambitious and wants to prove his worth to the Boss who had chosen a Persian over him as his favorite pet. Meowth never wanted to evolve so he could prove this worth and that he was better than his evolved form because every single time he wanted something, his attempts were destroyed by a Persian.
First it was Meowzie who ended up staying with the Persian leader of the gang, then the Boss chose his Persian over him, and finally, it was a stray Persian whom a herbalist (that Meowth fell in love with) picked as her mascot instead of him. Poor Meowth. Poor Meowth and his strange fetishes for human girls (and James. Yes, he fell in love with "Jimmy-kins" once because of purple shuckle juice). He's often the lesser member of the trio but he pulls his weight and makes sure that things stay in line.
Nyase/Nyasu, his Japanese counterpart, sounds very cat-like and often adds a "nya!" after every other sentence. Meowth, on the otherhand, has an accent that is gangster-like and after a while in the 1st season, stops adding a "meow" at the end of every other sentence. Very cute and that wraps it up for this little furball of a member
