Cordelia Investigations: The Anti-Hero

[the anti-hero]

Why we love the Anti-Hero
What does Buffy, Aragorn, and Jack Sparrow have in common?

Antihero n Protaganist who lacks characteristicly heroic qualities

Aragorn
We love Aragorn because ofhis rugged good looks. Also because he is a good fighter. But why is he an antihero? Because he doesn't want to succeed to the throne of Gondor since he doesn't want that responsibility.
A "hero" would be like "I will be King because it is my destiny!" The audience would be like, "Shut up you pompous git!"

Jack Sparrow
Jack is the biggest antihero hero here. He is a theif. He is a drunk. He's only on the mission for his own gain. And he doesn't even want to save the girl. And yet we root for him!! Go Jack go! And only 50% of the reason is because he is Johnny Depp. We love him because he does all of this stuff even when he doesn't want to. By the end his is the one that got them so far.
Shove off, Orando. We want our antihero!

Buffster
Buffy is brave, strong, witty, and all in all heroic. Why is she an antihero? She is the slayer. She wasn't elected to office. She didn't have to get a letter or recomendation. She just is. Deal. She does.
That is why Buff is so cool. She doesn't like her destiny; she's told us more that once. But she still does it (this seperates her from early Faith). She-who-hangs-out-in-cemetaries is her destiny, but she still does it with a hop in her step and a pun in her prose. Buffy, you're my (anti)hero!

If you think long enough, my stupid rants start to make sense.
