Why do I think a picture of a hamburger is an icon? I work at Red Robin, home of the smiling burgers, and this picture is posted all over our restaurant. The goal of red robin is to serve our guests a hot burger that is wrapped, never torn, with all ingredients fresh and visible 100% of the time. We have a mascot at Red Robin, called Red, which is a big bird that entertains our guests on Tuesday and Saturday nights. We also have another logo (below) that appears on a lot of Red Robin items, but it is not as important as the burger logo. When people see the logo below, they see a cool design and pretty colors - they see fun. But when a person looks at the burger they can see that it looks extremely appetizing, that it took some time and care to create, and feels inviting. I think that by looking at the product icon instead of the image below, you learn more about the company and what it stands for. Even on the gift card image, it shows the burger, which just proved my point again that it provides potential guests with an idea of how much we actually do care about our food and our restaurant.
Ask Jeeves and the Red Robin Burger
Now that I have informed you of the gravity of the burger icon, I wanted to combine the Red Robin icon with the Ask Jeeves icon. The reason I chose Ask Jeeves is because that is a site that people go to to obtain the information they wish to find at that particular point in time. People go to Ask Jeeves to find out the weather, to find books, and to search for attractions in the area. If someone were to sit down at the computer and visit the Ask Jeeves site to find a really good burger restaurant, Ask Jeeves would in turn say "Red Robin," as he stands there holding the burger. (Which by the way was my original intent of the picture, he is supposed to be holding the burger up with his left hand). Therefore, Ask Jeeves is someone who we all look to for information, when we see the logo we automatically know who he is, and we trust his opinion. If he likes the Red Robin burger then we will go and try it, because if he likes it we will too.
