Analysing a Brochure

The Seaworld Brochure

To me, the brochure looks quite interesting. It is colourful, which I believe is a good sign because colour attracts people more than black and white. On the very front page it tells you about the highlight of the park which is Lia and Lutik, the baby polar bears. At the bottom of the page, it tells you the Internet address in case you need to know more than what it tells you in the brochure. I first think of fun water rides and then cute and cuddly animals. Overall, it gives me a good impression of the park on just the first page.

The aspects of the park are shops, animals - including animal interactive programs- shows, rides, educational programs and a research and rescue area.

The shops are for all ages because when you buy something it can stay with you for as long as you would like. So whether you're older or younger you will still get the same happy feeling from souvenirs as everybody else does.

The interactive animal programs are for all ages as well because animals appeal to young children and I think that animals make older people feel younger. Adults like animals because they make them feel happy and at peace with everyone and everything.

There are also some animals that you are only allowed to observe, such as the penguins, marine life and the polar bears. I think that this appeals to younger children, teenagers and adults because children like animals even if they can't touch or play with them. To teenagers because some of them might have to do homework on these kinds of animals. Watching them in a habitat that is nearly the same as their original one, can help with work sometimes. To adults because they grew up to like animals and they still might now.

At certain times of the day there are special shows on that include things like performing seals and dolphins. I feel that these shows appeal to all ages because most of the shows are quite witty and people still like to have a good laugh. Also, the audience is appreciative of the animal's intelligence.

There is also a place called Cartoon Network Cartoon Beach. This area appeals to very young children because the rides here are calm and not very exciting so teenagers and older people probably won't want to go on them. The other rides in the park appeal to those children and adults who enjoy thrilling rides. Some of these rides have height restrictions and are not suitable for people with physical injuries, those who are pregnant or those with a weak heart, so some people may want to enjoy these rides but they are not physically able to. There is also a helicopter joy ride that has to be paid for at the park. It has no age or height restrictions and is suitable for every age.

There is a place in Seaworld that is dedicated to education. I did not get to visit it but I think it will appeal to younger people and adults because children and adults still want to learn as much as they can. Some of the fun of learning may have drifted away from the aged.

There is a place called the Seaworld Research and Rescue. I don't think the general public can visit it because trainers and animal helpers need to concentrate on rescuing and rehabilitating the sick or hurt animals.

Overall, I believe that this park is targeted at all ages.

The way that the language appeals to the reader is that for each kind of ride or shop they change the language to suit the feeling of the place. When you read about the shows in the brochure they write things like 'environmentally friendly' which makes you think they are being kind to the environment and 'natural dolphin behaviours' which makes you think that they aren't forcing the dolphins to do things they normally wouldn't do. When you read about the rides they say ' an amazing adventure' and 'an out-of-this-world experience' which makes you think that this ride is going to be exciting and thrilling. I think this may be done because it makes the attractions more appealing to different ages. The language used to describe the shows is aimed at older people because it is more sophisticated and more descriptive. The language that describes the rides is aimed at younger people because the sentences are shorter and filled with more adjectives.

I think the Movieworld brochure, the Seaworld brochure and the Dreamworld brochure all provide the most accurate information. They all talk about everything you need to know before and during your visit. All of the important information is there including the different shows, where the park is located, the opening hours, rides and attractions and the shops. The information that is not listed is the show times because they may change every day and the ticket prices because there are many different packages available. The Wet 'n' Wild brochure also provides accurate information however, I think that the presentation is not as effective as the other brochures. I think this because the photographs are not as flashy as they are in the other brochure and also because the brochure is much smaller than the others although this could have something to do with the smaller size of the park and the amount of attractions that are there.
