Nit Mania!

One day a girl named Rosalie went to the arcade to play the newest video game around, Nit Mania! Rosalie was ten years old and had long fair hair, blue eyes, a slim body, good taste in clothes, (she was wearing black pants, a short pink top and black sneakers), a rounded nose and pink lips. She wore many bangles, a pair of earrings and a lovely necklace. Her parents were kajillionaires (the only two in the world) but she still liked to go to the arcade or to the corner store. Now back to the arcade.

Rosalie had played Nit Mania! three times that day. In Nit Mania! you are a fighter whose job it is to blow up giant nits. Once you pass a level you get a life. Once you get to more advanced levels you get two lives. Rosalie had never been this far into the game. She could only get up to level five.

"For goodness sakes!" she cried as she lost again. She dropped another coin into the slot and the game started again. Just as she was going for the controls she brushed against her open bottle of water with her elbow.

"Oh man, what a mess!" Rosalie exclaimed as water splashed onto the control console. She grabbed her bandanna and wiped up the water.

"There," she said as she wiped away the last drops of water. She set the bandanna on the floor and turned back to the screen. Suddenly she was aware that of a flashing notice on the screen. It said: LEVEL ONE then it said GO! so she played.

When she completed it she saw the remaining nits coming closer to the screen. Rosalie thought, hmmm, that's strange, they've never done that before. I wonder whether the water has done something to the game. She watched the game carefully and noticed there was another flashing message on the screen. It said: Thank you for releasing us. Ha ha ha! We shall rule the world!

"Uh, oh." Rosalie said to herself quietly as she saw nits the size of ponies materialise in front of her. She grabbed her sopping bandanna and slipped out of the arcade.

As she ran something strange started happening to her clothes. They were changing into ones that looked like the fighter's clothes in the game. There was even a belt with weapons like a laser gun and some ammunition if she decided to use the real gun.

"Wow, that water has really messed up the game. I wonder whether the water actually brought the game out into my life or something." She was on to something because people surrounding the arcade didn't seem to see the nits. They just walked around and once Rosalie was sure that she saw a nit walk right through somebody.

"Hey, excuse me sir. Excuse me!" She shouted at the man whom the nits had run through. He didn't seem to hear her. "Oh!" She exclaimed, "I know why he's ignoring me. It's because he is not in the game. I spilled the water on it so I'm the only one who can see these nits. Plus, I have the fighter's clothes on because I am the fighter. I brought the nits out here so I have to kill them all."

She noticed a flashing notice hovering in the air in front of her. It said: LEVEL TWO and then GO! so she got out the gun, stuffed some ammo into it and began to shoot the nits. She saw a health bar floating above her, an ammo bar just at her feet and a health counter above her that showed she had two lives left..

"This is really like the game!" She exclaimed happily as she shot a few nits at once.

Then disaster struck, a swarm of nits came at Rosalie and hit her so much that her life bar got down to 0. She fainted and started the level again. As she shot the nits she thought about what would happen if she fainted in this round. She began to get more ruthless and got out her laser gun so it would be easier to shoot the nits. One of the braver nits came and scratched her leg. Rosalie yelped in pain but it didn't stop her, it just helped her to get a better understanding of Level Two. It was sort of better for her to see the game as her own self, not as a fighter in a game. She finished the level and gained an extra life. Her leg suddenly healed and the next level started. She finished all the levels up to level five.

"Here's where I stand," she said to herself, "I have all my health, not much ammo and one life. I will try to beat this level!"

She jumped and shot and rolled to try and get all the nits. When she had finished it for the first time, she saw no nits coming from the distance for the next level. She realised that level five was the end of the nits in this game but not in the game in the arcade. Then the bars and the counter disappeared and she was free to walk to her house.

Her mother fussed over her dreadfully and asked her where she had been all day. Rosalie told her mother that she had just been at the arcade having a good time. When she got up to her room and got ready to have a back rub she found a bullet in her pocket. She said to herself, "Now I know it wasn't just all a dream."

The End
