Holy Sonnet 14: 
"Batter My Heart, Three-Person'd God, for you"
Author:  John Donne  (1572-1631)
Scansion:  This poem is a sonnet (a lyric expressing extreme    
                     emotion) written in iambic pentameter.
Rhyme Scheme:  abba abba cdcee
Formal Features: 

    Rhyme - contains end rhymes (words that rhyme at the end of the   
                  line) at lines 1,4,5,8 * 2,3,6,7 * 9,11 * 13,14

    Metaphor - "make me new" at the end of line 4 is a reference to a
                     commonly known Christian metaphor (make me new,  
                     whole, and forgive me of my sins)

    Tone - The author changes the tone from angry (lines 1-4) to
               apologetic (lines 5-8)
