when i first got to the junk yard, that was a little intimidating in and of itself. my dad had driven me back to rolla to catch a bus back to st. louis and to reclaim the stuff from my car that was salvagable.
this is the view that i first saw of my little car. the highway partolman had used the term "folded" to describe the damage. i knew it wasn't going to be pretty.

| this is the only part of the entire car that looked a little "normal" -- the right front quarter panel. and even it doesn't look that great, but compared to the rest of the car, oh yeah, this looks great. |
| the front of the car offers a false sense of hope that maybe the damage isn't all that bad after all. but don't be fooled by this. |
| it kind of looks like a truck from this angle. i knew it would only get worse as i went around the car but nothing could have prepared me for this next view. |
| and the rear view is just as pretty. it was truly something to behold. i think it was right about here i felt hot tears streaming down my face. i just knew life was going to really suck for awhile. |

this is what i could get to inside the car to photograph. and it was difficult. there was so much broken glass everywhere and nothing at all was left of the back seat. i had almost opted to sleep there and deal with the car early the next morning but my friend rob came 100 miles to get me. that's a good friend.
a few people have made the comment, "i would never ride the bus!" i suppose if it was absolutely all you had in the whole world and you had no way of getting another car until you saved up for it, that you'd do whatever you needed to get get out of that situation. even if it meant to ride the bus for awhile. you never know.
| and so that was when i got used to not having a car and having to rely on public transit for all my transportation needs. it was okay in st. louis. sure it sucked having to stand outside in the snow and sleet and rain and ice, but that's over now. i have had many cars since this one but so far have never again had another new car. |
