Semana 7: Limpiar
- Sullivant Sign: Make sure to put up the sign saying where the class will be during class seven. It should be in the miscellaneous section of the ELOTE binder.
- Certificate of Completion: At the beginning of class, get all the student's full names who want to receive a certificate of completion in week eight. Be sure to e-mail me (Jessica Henry ([email protected])) as soon as you get done with class, and I'll have your certificates ready for you in the organizer for week eight (all you'll need to do is sign them).
- Activities: Try to make the activities shorter this day so that theres enough time to finish setting up the e-mail account.
- Places: Another great way to review on a day that's so limited for time is to have the students review as you're all walking to Sullivant Hall (the EHS library computer lab). BR>
- Homework: Go over the Adjective homework. This shouldnt take long as its a very short assignment.
- Handouts: Handout the pronunciation, vocabulary, and homework sheets now in case you run out of time at the end.
- Setting up an e-mail account:
(NOTE: We may not be able to get assigned computer labs for Fall Quarter. Instead, we are going to go to the EHS library in Sullivant Hall on the second floor to set up the accounts. The teachers will have to split up the class and go from computer to computer, working with students individually.)
- Get each student set up on a computer. One of the teachers should lead the class while the other walks around to make sure that all the students are on track.
- Give an introduction to the computer first. Explain the monitor (monitor), the mouse (ratn), the printer (impresora), and the keyboard (teclado). Try to tell a little bit how each of these works.
- Explain how when the ratn moves, the arrow (flecha) moves on the screen and that the buttons (botones) are used to touch the object.
- Explain how the keyboard works. Be sure to explain what the shift key (tecla de mayscalas) does, what the space bar (barra espaciadora) does, what the backspace button does, and what the enter key does. These are not obvious.
- Have them double-click (hacer clic dos tiempos) the icon (icono but you might need to say dibujo if theyve never worked with computers before) for Internet Explorer with the right mouse button. (These next steps are explained a little better on the homework handout if you want to use that as a guide for your students.)
- Explain about the box that opens. Mainly explain about the box of the address (direccin).
- Have them type into that box mail.yahoo.com and then either press the enter button or use the mouse to click the Go button to the right of the address box. (You might have to be more explicit about how to type inside the box (click once until it turns blue (is highlighted)...)
- Have them click the link that says Sign up now.
- Have them click the Sign up now on the far left.
- Help them fill out the questions one by one. Make sure they write down their screen name and password on the second page of their homework.
- When the get to the language question, make sure they choose Spanish. Let them determine which one they want to use depending one where theyre from.
- Have them read and accept the terms of service.
- They may have to choose a new name if its already chosen.
- Have them click ir a yahoo.
- Give them a minute or two to explore their new mailbox.
- Tarea: Correo Electrnico: Explain homework assignment. Make sure everyone has one of the professors e-mail addresses written into their homework handout (you can do this before class if its easier).
- If theres time left, have them go to google.
- Have them type in www.google.com and press enter or click go.
- Explain to them a little bit about the world wide web and about what a search engine does and how it can be useful in their own lives.
- Ask the students about something that interests them: a hometown, a favorite musical group, a recipe theyd like to look up. Have each student type in the name of one of these things and press the Google search button.
- The teacher thats going around the class should help students whose searches arent working. Look for possible spelling errors or confusion with the word (for example, a musical group called Primavera might come up with a lot of different results. Try to help them find what theyre looking for by finding more information about the thing theyre searching for and adding that info to the search.)
- Be sure to explain about the back button so they can return to the list of items they were looking at originally.
- Make sure that you let them know where there are free computers to use for the Internet (the library on High Street near King Ave, Sullivant Hall of OSU and the Main Library of OSU).
- If you havent gone over the 2-hour mark (which you probably have), you can go over the class handouts:
- Pronunciation Activity: ch: Go over in class. See week 2.
- Pronunciation Activity: y
- Week 6: Cleaning Vocabulary: Go over in class.
- Furniture: Go over in class.
- Common Clothing: Go over in class.
- When you get their e-mail:
- Make sure to send them back a nice congratulatory e-mail. Also, send them the URL for an online Spanish-English dictionary: www.wordreference.com
- Also, make sure to send them the URL for the online class schedule and ELOTE website.
