Semana 3: Tomar Órdenes
- Activities
- Names: As the other teacher is writing up the "Greeting" phrases on the board, go around the room asking, "Hi, what's your name?" and "What's her name?" Have the students start asking each other about different people in the room.
- Greetings: On one side of the board write "How are you?," "How's it going?," "What's up?," "And you?," and "What's new?" On the other side write, "Good, thanks," "So so," "Not so good," "I'm fine," and "Nothing." In round-robin style have the students ask each other these questions and answer appropriately using the expressions on the board. Make sure that more than just "How are you" and "Good, thanks" are being used.
- Temperatures: Use the flash cards demonstrating different temperatures like ice, coffee, seasons, water boiling in a pot, etc. The idea behind these cards is so that they can intuitively relate the temperature measure of basic hot and cold, or warm and cool to the numeric value of the temperature in Fahrenheit. This is an easy thing to do, but it will get them in the swing of getting used to such a totally different measure of the temperature. (Note: Some students may have never used numbers at all as a measure of temperature.) As you go over these it would be good not to solely be bound to the cards and suggest to them, “If I had ice-cream, what temperature would it be close to in degrees Fahrenheit?”
- Making a Burger: Make up a prop hamburger with all the different ingredients. From this have your class build a hamburger by giving them an order like in a restaurant. Here are some suggestions for the mock orders. Each person can just make the orders up as the go along. Just try to make sure that they're using all the words and not ordering a "Hamburger plain" every time.
- Homework: Go over the Noun homework in class. This works great with two people (one sitting with the students and one up at the board writing other examples and things).
- Pronunciation Activity: “D”: This sound is similar to the "d" in "puede."
- Pronunciation Activity: “th”: This sound is the same as "D" but without the vibration of the vocal cords.
- Week 3: Taking Orders: Go over in class.
- Numbers 20-100: This is homework. Explain to the students how to do it, and remind them that they’ll need to bring this handout to class 4.
