| Chapter 2 The Mystery of Dry Dry Ruins |
| Mt. Rugged When you arive at Mt. Rugged, check the bushes for semi-valuable coins and an Egg (Don't wanna know how long it's been there...). Walk across the railroad tracks and up the mountain path. Turn right, bump into Parakarry, and see once again you're THE Mario. He explains what his problem is: To find 3 letters he dropped around Mt. Rugged. Be a good boy and help him out. Go right, up the stairs, and find there are Monty Moles underground (like in Super Mario World), so be on your guard. Go down the stairs, turn left, hit the yellow block with your Hammer, and find the strange, blue creature named Whacka. Hit him on the head to receive a Whacka's Bump, a strong curative item you should use later in the game. On a side note, you go right of the stairs and find a Sleepy Sheep. Go back up the stairs, turn right, hit the Save Block (optional), watch out for Monty Moles, and go up some more mini-stairs. Look to your left and you should see...a letter. Kick Kooper from one platform to another to get your first letter. Proceed right, watching out for enemies that look like rocks called Clefts. Right now, your only way to kill it is Bombette's Bomb attack, which you can use as a First Strike against them. Go up the slopes and go to the scene on the right. Fall down the platform (literally), collect the letter guarded by a Cleft, and use the springboard to get back on the platform. Go left, through the mini-tunnel, and find a wooden bar with a slide. Use the slide, go left, down the stairs, then up some stairs, then onto a springboard. Hit the block on your left to get a coin, then all the way to the right for a Honey Syrup. Go down the slide on the same platform and go right to find the last letter. Get back to Parakarry, using a series of slides and show that you got the letters for him. Parakarry then joins your party. Go back to the scene where you got the second letter and have Parakarry...carry you across to the right. The Buzzar As you walk right, you will notice someone's...watching you. As you get past the bridge, you will be stopped by this someone. S/He suspects you of being Mario, and asks for your name. Picking Mario of Princess Peach gets you into battle, while saying you're Luigi lets you avoid it. Although, if you're like me, you'd want the Star Points. Take him down in battle with Shell Shots and Power Jumps, with maybe a Koopa Tea in between. Be sure to stop most of it's attack by repeatedly pressing A. This isn't that tough, so go fight it. Go the only way you can go, hit the Heart Block, Save, and enter Dry Dry Desert, home of the Dry Dry Ruins. Dry Dry Desert On the screen you enter, you can see a team of Koopa Troopas have already started to search for the ruins. Have Kooper as your partner when you talk to the one with the mustache, for that guy's his idol. Go all the way to the right from this screen, following the path, avoiding any Twisters on the way towards Dry Dry Outpost. On the scene before the entrance to the outpost, go two scenes south to find an oasis. Hit one of the trees here and take a Lemon. Also, be sure to hit the Super Block, which powers up a party member. Once done with that, go into Dry Dry Outpost and gather some information on the ruins. (Unless you want to be the train-a-holic like I am. By this time, I had 20 HP, 20 FP, and 9 BP.) Dry Dry Outpost As you walk inside town, you will find the local shop owner running somewhere. Follow him. Keep walking to the right and find a cloaked figure. This is Sheek. Give the Lemon you picked up in the oasis. He will be pleased with your present, for Lemons are his favorite thing. He'll then tell you something you want to know about. Say "How to see Moustafa." He'll then tell you to buy a Dried Shroom and a Dusty Hammer, in that order at the Little Mouser's Shop. Do so, checking items into the shop if you need some room. He will be amazed that you knew the order that he will call you, "Brother." Mario will then show his armpit, which seems to talk, for Little Mouser knows what it's saying. He'll then tell you to go to highest part of Dry Dry Outpost. Now, go to where Sheek was and the door he was guarding will be accessable. Jump up some crates and go left, into a room. Talk to Sheek and he will reveal himself as Moustafa, the one you've been seeking all this time. He will then tell you about unimportant things about Dry Dry Ruins and give you the Pulse Stone, the key to finding the ruins, and how to use it. Before leaving town, rest in the Toad House, go in the alley behind it to get a magic spell by Merlee casted on you (the more money, the better, for she helps you out in battle sometimes), and save. Also be sure to look around the houses for directions towards optional Badges in the desert. At anytime, leave in search for those ruins! Dry Dry Desert...again... In the scene next to the entrance of the outpost, go north 3 scenes and left. You will notice the Pulse Stone Moustafa gave you will start reacting. Keep going left until you find a scene where there's nothing but a boulder in the middle while the Pulse Stone is beeping quickly. Insert the Pulse Stone into the boulder, and out of nowhere, Dry Dry Ruins will emerge! Hit the Heart Block before entering. Dry Dry Ruins The second you enter, a non-creepy mysterious voice will try and get you out of the ruins, from a guy named Tutankoopa. He warns you of great disasters, but because Mario forgot his paper hearing aides, proceed to the right, hitting the Save Block just in case. In this next room, you will be notice Blue Pokeys come out of coffins. They're a snap if you First Strike them with Bombette, but be careful of their poison. Also, be sure to pick up the Spike Shield Badge in the second coffin; it'll be really useful later, but not now. After the third coffin, take the staircase leading down and take the Ruins Key inside. Go back and take the staircase leading up, unlocking the door with the Ruins Key (duh). Jump on the pink "!" switch and go back into the room where you found the Ruins Key, seeing it's filled with sand. Go right, into the next scene where Tutankoopa tries to drive you off again. Again, ignore it. Go up the first staircase you see, fighting the Buzzy Beetle if you want to. Fly to the right using Parakarry, onto a platform with a cracked wall. Destroy the wall using Bombette and press the pink "!" switch. Sand will drain to the room below like before, and, like before, get the Ruins Key. Get out of that room and go down the other staircase. Enter the room to the right with a stone block, which you cannot break with your Hammer. KEEP THIS ROOM IN MIND. Now, go to the left, unlocking the door with your Ruins Key. Go up the staircase and hit the switch at the top. The staircase will flip around. Go up the stairs again, finding another stone block. Keep this place in mind too. Go to the left and find another locked door and a yellow "?" block. Hit the block, releasing three Mummy Pokeys on you (trust me, you're supposed to do this). Defeat the three goons (you will also encounter your first ceiling enemy, where you Quake Hammer it) and a Ruins Key will drop out of nowhere. Use the key to get to the next room. Fly to the left using Parakarry and enter the room to the left. Once again, you will be stopped by Tutankoopa's voice, sounding scared about you entering the room. Climb up the green staircase and jump on the green switch. Go up the second green staircase and press the green switch at the top there. Go to the left and down the red staircase to press the red switch. Go down the red staircase and up the first green staircase, then up the red staircase. Fall down the hole onto a huge chest, containing the Super Hammer, with the ability to break those stone blocks! Hit the stone block on your right and get out of that room. Now that you have the Super Hammer, go into those rooms with the stone blocks I told you to keep in mind. Break the blocks to get an Artifact and a Pyramid Stone (which is guarded by a Chomp). Return to the room where you flew to the left via Parakarry to get to Super Hammer. Go down the stairs and break the wall on the left with Bombette. Enter the room and fall down the hole. Hit the Super Block and upgrade a partner of your choice (but if you haven't, you should upgrade Parakarry for the battle against Tutankoopa). Bomb the wall to the left and find another room with a stone block guardian some sort of puzzle piece. Once you hit the Stone Block, a Chomp will appear, so get ready for battle. Beat them up and get the Diamond Stone. From the room with the Super Block, go left and you will be in a long hallway with Buzzy Beetles. Make your way to the right and into a room with a stone block. Hit the block and jump on the pink "!" switch to make stairs come out of the wall, allowing you to reach a Ruins Key. Take the key, go back to the room with the Super Block, jump on the springboard, and go twice to the right. Upon entering this room, you will be stopped by Tutankoopa's voice, but ignore it again (So far, he's all talk and no action). Go past the five Chomp statues and take the staircase leading up, using your Ruins Key. Hit the pink "!" switch like usual and you will uncover a clue to finding Tutankoopa, showing five Chomp statues with a triangle in the first one, a diamond in the middle one, and a moon in the last one. Get out of the room and take the staircase leading down. Go to the right and find another room with a stone block, artifact, and a Chomp. Take the Lunar Stone and go into the room with the 5 Chomp statues without the shapes in them. Remember the clue you saw earlier? If you haven't figured it out, you stick the stones into the corresponding statues. That means you put the Pyramid Stone in the first statue, the Diamond Stone in the middle one, and the Lunar Stone in the last. The statues' eyes will light up and make a staircase appear. Go down the staircases, hit the Heart Block and go left. Tutankoopa will then give you your final warning, but once again, be disobedient. Hit the Save Block and change your partner to Parakarry (Hopefully Super-ranked). It also helps to have the Hammer Throw Badge equipped. Walk to the right and you will be shown a short cut-scene and be taken into battle. Tutankoopa Begin the battle with Shell Shots and Hammer Throws. He will then summon a Chomp. It isn't much of a threat, so use Hammer Throw and Shell Shot on Tutankoopa. The Chomp will then bite you and Tutankoopa will throw a shell. Keep aiming your attacks on Tutankoopa and you will be shown the easiest win in history. After losing the battle, you will see Tutankoopa get humiliated infront of Mario. Rescue the second Star Spirit, Mamar! After the End of Chapter message, you will be taken to where Princess Peach is. Bowser will then storm inside her room and start talking. mentioning a guy called the Invincible Tubba Blubba. Kammy Koopa will then inform Bowser the Star Spirit Tubba Blubba kept has flown away from his grasp. Bowser will then leave, allowing Twink to talk to Peach. You will then have to find Tubba Blubba's weakpoint. Use the secret exit out of the room to be in Bowser's room again. Use the door on the right and you'll be warned by Twink there are guards around. Walk along the wall, going down and enter the first door. This should be a library. You'll get another warning from Twink. Go through the library, going left, hiding behind bookcases, drawers, etc., just don't be spotted by those guards! You can also pick up a Power Rush Badge, which you'll have to give to Mario later. Eventually, you'll come to two guards talking about Tubba Blubba, and what might be his weakpoint. Peach will then get spotted by them and be taken back to her room while Twink delivers the information. You'll then be outside the Ruins as Mario with the Star Spirit, Mamar. She'll then thank you and give you more Star Energy, including her special power, Lullaby. Now you're free to wander the desert or go back to Toad Town the way you came here. To get back to Mt. Rugged, walk as far left as you can, then walk down 3 scenes. This is the scene with Kolorado. You can give the Artifact you picked up in the ruins for a Star Piece. Go left from here to get back to Mt. Rugged. You should know this place by now, so go all the way back to the train station (Be sure to hit the Super Block behind the Stone Block along the way) and get back to Toad Town. You now have some extra time. Go ahead and use. If you haven't found it, hit the tree across from the Li'l Oinks store to access the secret playroom. Have Tayce T. cook to some more items for you. Enter Toad Town Tunnels and fight some Bloopers. Do something! Otherwise, go to the mini-bridge near Tayce T.'s House and you will hear an ear piecing scream. The guard at the entrance will say he saw a ghost. You will see it too, but Mario won't. After a while, the guard will say it went into the Forever Forest. Follow it to the right and it will tell you his master wants to speak with you, in the mansion on the far side of the forest. It's about the Star Spirits, so go on ahead, into the forest. Face your destiny without fear, but with courage! |
