| First, A little about my truckdriving Days! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Yeah, I used to be a truckdriver (The Big Blue Trucks). Unfortunately I came down ill shortly after going solo. It all began back in the Spring of 1998. You see, I went to Truck Driving School for 2 months (on the weekends) and got my my CDL (Commercial Drivers License) Memorial day weekend. I went to work for Werner Enterprises (who has a teminal in Springfield, Ohio) the following Tuesday. Whenever a graduate of truckdriving school comes to work for them, they send you out with a trainer for 2 months to give you some experience in "over the road driving" and "alley dock parking". I was supposed to go out with a trainer after a couple of classes (classes to fill me in on the Electronic Logbooks that they had just changed over to), but there weren't enough trainers for all the people that showed up that day. So they put me up in a hotel for a few days which I though was pretty nice of them. I ended up staying there for about 2 weeks until a trainer showed up to take me out. The first two weeks went well, because their rules don't allow new drivers to take the wheel for the first 2 weeks. After that, well that was a different story. My first trainer didn't want to let me drive until I absolutely had to, and that was at a truck stop to alleydock pard the truck. I was already nervous from not driving and then I had to listen to the other truckers on the Citizens Band Radio making fun of me while I parked (I had to back the trailer and truck in between two other trucks). The topper came when we arrived in Youngstown and he made me stand outside the truck while he screwed his ex-girlfriend in the cab (and didn't bother changing the sheets after he was done) and that was it for him. The first chance I got I asked for another trainer. The second one was an idiot from Alabama that scared the hell out of me. Once he slammed on the brakes to pick up a woman that was hitchhiking and threw me out of the bunk. Did I mention that sometimes one of us would take a nap while the other drove? Now I know why they had put seatbelts on the bunks in the truck. Then there was the time we stopped at a shopping mall at 4am and unhooked the trailer (that was full by the way) and drove the tractor over to where "his housetrailer" was so he could get some things. It turned out that he was divorced and it was his trailer but his Ex-wife had the locks changed on him while he was gone, even though she didn't live there. We were there for almost an hour trying to get into his trailer before we awoke his neighbor who just happened to have a copy of the keys. Go Figure. My 2 months passed real slow if you know what I mean and soon it was time to take my road test to get my own truck. I barely passed but still got my own truck (with a baby bunk). I had been driving solo for almost 2 months before I started having problems with my eyes and decided to go see a Doctor while visiting my sister in Cleveland. It went downhill from there. I actually got a triple whammy that year. I became ill and then my sister (the one in Cleveland) was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have one removed to save her life. Then on Thanksgiving Day my mother had a severe heart attack and had bypass surgery that she never fully recovered from and passed away 3 days before Christmas. Well needless to say, I don't drive anymore and only a select group of people know why. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! |
