Every time Katie felt like she was finally going to fall asleep, she heard Reggie’s voice. She heard him laugh from the living room as glass shattered. She still heard things hit the wall and pictures fall.

Kevin had held her until she had started tossing and turning. By that point, Katie had been up and out of bed at various times during the night. Peyton had actually unplugged the apartment phone so Katie would hopefully stop calling. A few minutes later, both Peyton and Elisabeth had turned off their cell phones.

Katie sat in Frankie’s room, watching Isabella sleep. The way the moon filtered in and lit up Bella’s curls, it made Katie feel a little bit safer.

“Katie?” She heard Frankie softly ask. Katie turned and saw the ten year old standing in the doorway.

“Don’t you have school in the morning mister?” Katie asked, as Frankie walked into the room and took a seat on the bed by Katie.

“You can’t sleep, can you?” Frankie asked, looking up at her.

“Not really?” Katie replied, a small smile at the edge of her lips. Frankie had always been her buddy. He had always been able to read her in a way very few people could.

“Are you having nightmares?” Frankie asked.

            “Just a little.” Katie replied.

“You shouldn’t be scared.” Frankie said, leaning up against Katie.

“Sometimes, you can’t help but be scared.” Katie replied, wrapping an arm around him.

“You guys can stay here. I don’t mind staying in the other room. I have all the video games with me then.” Frankie replied.

“Okay Mr. Jonas, I am going to help you get back into bed. You’re riding to school with Kevin in the morning.” Katie said.

“It’ll be okay.” Frankie said, smiling at Katie.

“Really?” Katie asked. “You sound so sure.”

“God told me it would be okay.” Frankie stated.

“If God says it’ll be okay, then it’ll be okay.” Katie said. She looked around the bedroom for a second. “You know, Bella is sleeping through the night if you want to sleep in here.” She suggested as Frankie chuckled.

“Katie, I have all the video games in my room now.” Frankie pointed out.
