Chapter 25
Allie went for a walk later that night. She hadn’t really thought much
about the silver medal the gymnastics team had won. She had spent more time
thinking about the smile Aaron had given her, and the second note from him she
had received upon completion of her routine. “Don’t worry, I’m coming back,
and I promise to not slip away again.”
Allie still had the note in her hoodie pocket. She was
dressed in a pair of black Adidas sweats and a white t-shirt that she had owned
for years. There had been a design on it but after frequent washing, it had
started to fade.
She found herself back on that very same balcony where every
important moment in her and Aaron’s relationship had happened. And, he was even
there, looking out at the city.
“Care if I join you?” Allie asked, coming to stand by him.
“Not at all. Unless I’m still in the doghouse.” Aaron said.
“Okay, if anyone should apologize, it should be me. I was the
one who wanted to hide everything from people.” Allie said.
“But, we’re good now, right?” Aaron asked, turning to fully
face her. The dark night and the lights from around the village had given Aaron
this wonderful glow in his blond curly hair and in his blue eyes.
“I feel like we’re just meeting for the first time.” Allie
said. “I feel like a sixteen year old with a huge crush too, but that’s besides
the point.”
“You’ve got that whole feeling that the whole world is an
open door and you can do anything?” Aaron said, watching her smile.
“Like everything feels right for once. Like things aren’t
going to come back and bite me in the ass for once.” Allie said, smiling a
little. “Well, once I fix one thing.” She said, leaning closer and kissing
Aaron.
When they pulled away, Aaron decided to ask her something
important. “Are you going to be at my race tomorrow?” He asked.
“Defiantly.” Allie replied.
He bit his lip before he asked her the next part. “You gonna
be there as my girlfriend?”
Allie smiled a little. “I will be if you want me to be.” She
replied, looking from her feet to him.
She could have sworn that she saw his blue eyes sparkle. “I
want you to be.” He replied.
Allie climbed into bed shortly after they got bored of
watching the lights. She pulled her blanket up to her chin and smiled. She now
had Aaron back. Now all that was left was the pesky gold medal.
