Chapter 24

Allie was willing to settle for second place. Everyone, including herself, had been shaky and nervous. So, second place was okay.
She tried not to look disappointed. She still had a chance to win gold. She had her individual events and her all-around. She just would have to break out of the funk she was in.
She still had her floor exercise to go through and she was starting to think it over. There was no way she could make up enough points to catapult the team into first, but she could secure the second place spot. She started picturing the routine, going through it step by step.
She felt someone tap her on her shoulder. Allie turned and saw Jules standing there. “Nate and a special friend wanted you to have this.” Jules said, pointing to where Nate sat as she handed Allie a note.
Allie’s heart leapt as she saw Aaron sitting next to Nate. He noticed her looking his way and smiled. She smiled back, gaining energy she didn’t she still had.
She opened the note. Nate had written “Little sis, keep going. You may still be able to win gold.” Allie shook her head and chuckled. Nate was dating a gymnastics coach and he still didn’t understand the point system.
She quickly scanned down the sheet, to see if Aaron wrote anything. And that when she saw it, the one thing that made everything okay for her.     Aaron had written “I’m sorry for being a jackass. Please forgive me?
“Jules, I need a pen!” Allie quickly said, taking Jules’ clipboard from her. Allie flipped the note over and quickly wrote something on it.
“Next up is Allie Haywood for Team USA.” Someone called.
“Can you make sure they get this?” Allie asked, her eyes pleading with her old friend.
“You go worry about your floor exercise.” Jules said. “I’ll get this to them.
Allie jogged off and Jules looked up at Nate.
A few minutes later, Allie was in place to start and Jules had made her way to Aaron and Nate. She handed Nate the note. “Allie wanted you two to have this.” She said, as she squatted down next to Nate to watch Allie.
Na na, na na na, na na
I miss you, miss you so bad
I don't forget you, oh it's so sad
I hope you can hear me
                                                                                   I remember it clearly

                                                                                The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won't be the same
                                                                                               Ooooh

Na na na na na na na

I didn't get around to kiss you
                                                                                Goodbye on the hand
I wish that I could see you again
                                                                                   I know that I can't

                                                                                           Oooooh
I hope you can hear me cause I remember it clearly

                                                                                The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won't be the same
                                                                                            Ooooh

When Aaron received the note, he wasn’t sure he wanted to read it. Allie was looking magnificent and he didn’t want to tear his eyes away from her.
He slowly scanned through the note, past Allie’s ribbing of Nate and him calling her his little sis. He scanned through until he found his name. “Aaron- don’t worry, all is forgiven. I couldn’t stay mad at a guy like you forever.-Allie”.
Aaron felt his heart skip a beat. A smile grew on his face and he went back to watching Allie.
