Chapter 21

Aaron had semifinals later in the day. Allie had planned to be there when they were dating but now that they had broken up….
Aaron tried not to think hard on it. His mom always told him that if something was meant to be, it’ll happen. If he and Allie were suppose to be together, then they would be together.
He was first place in his semifinals. And he hugged the other swimmers. Then, he headed to do the interviews and then the cool-down pool.
That was when Michael appeared. “So, you and Allie broke up?” Michael asked.
“Yeah, she’s all yours.” Aaron replied.
“I don’t want to date her. I’m here actually to get you back together.” Michael said.
“You’re going to help?” Aaron asked, surprised.
“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I?” Michael asked.
“Cause she’s your ex. And imagine all the bragging rights you could get for taking Aaron Peirsol’s girlfriend away from him.” Aaron said, not really paying attention to his cool down anymore.
“Aaron, if I wanted her, she wouldn’t have been your ex.” Michael said, as he slipped into the cool down pool. “I don’t have much time to talk, but I know something was up with her because she breezed through her trials yesterday. If Allie was fine, she would have messed up on something, even something simple.”
“Maybe you don’t know Allie as well as you think.” Aaron said.
“What if I told you Jules was worried because of what happened too? And if anyone knows Allie, it’s Jules.” Michael said. He looked straight at Aaron for a few seconds and then climbed out of the pool. “Aaron, trust me on this. You two need to get back together.” Michael said as he walked off.
Aaron sat in the cool down pool, thinking about what Michael had said.
