Chapter 6

The fall semester started out simple. Patience didn't have any classes with Michael. She and Heather spent the Friday nights either out with Greg and Paul, or at a swim team party.
Heather and Paul were getting really close, which seemed like it was a dream come true for Heather. Patience was glad for her, and many nights were willing to stay home and study.
By September, Patience and Heather had become a fixture at the major parties at University of Michigan. They enjoyed hanging out with the swim team, and Patience was even putting up with Michael. She still wouldn't call him a friend, but she would hang out in groups with him.
Their "fighting" even was becoming something that the swim team loved seeing. They would instigate fights between the two, just to see how it ended.
Michael didn't really like the "debates", as he called them, between him and Patience. He even signed up to take a five week course because she was in it. But, she always clearly made her ideas of him clear. He was a nineteen year old that the country worshipped. He was letting all that attention go to his head.
But, even if that was all the attention she was willing to give him, he was willing to take it. Even if it meant fighting with her, or debating with her about whatever came up, he would take it.
************************************************************************
About October there seemed to be a change in Michael, a change that even Patience picked up on it.
She really caught it at a party, when she was hanging out with Paul, Heather and the swim team.
Paul had made mention of the new blonde that was hanging out near Michael. Paul also made mention of how it was different from the one Michael had been talking to outside of a class. That made James on the swim team mention about how it was a different girl than who had met Michael outside of swim practice the other night.
Michael blew it off, saying that they were just looking for autographs, while Garry on the swim team mentioned something about Michael doing random hook-ups with random women.
Patience had groaned at that, cause one of Greg's eyebrows to rise. And that had led her and Michael, somehow, into a debate about hooking up with random girls.
They had fought, or debated, for a good half hour. It ended with Patience and Greg leaving. And, on their way out the door, Michael was leading the blonde up the stairs. He turned and looked at Patience and then smirked.
That smirk had stayed with Patience for the rest of the week. When he had arrived in the one class that they shared, all she could see was that one smirk he had given her when she was leaving that party.
For the next few parties, Michael showed up with different girls. Some were red heads, some were brunettes, and some were blondes. But, they always seemed to end the same way, Patience and he got into a heated debate about something causing both of them to go their separate ways- her out the door and then him up the stairs or to one of the bedrooms with his girl of the night.
One night, just the swim team went out. Paul was on the swim team, so he was there, and Heather was there too. Patience was there, along with a few other girls. And, Freddy had chosen this one place to go hang out.
When the cars pulled up at the karaoke place, a few laughs were had. A few more were had as they all walked into the place and sat down at a table.
A few of the girls talked James into getting up and singing 'Jimmy's Got A Girlfriend' by The Wilkensens, as the swim team had a laugh. Then, some more of the girls got up and sang 'What I Like About You' by Lillix. That caused some of the guys to get up and go sing 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' by Def Leppard.
Somehow, someone talked Patience and Heather into singing, since the two had yet to get up and sing. And, Heather picked out 'Never Be The Same Again' by Melanie C.
Patience had put up a small fight about that song, since it talked about two people being friends, and she hadn't really felt that way about a guy. But, Heather wanted to sing it, and Patience did like the song.
So, she sang the song with Heather. And during it, she made the mistake of looking at the table. And, instead of looking at Greg, she looked at Michael.
He was listening intently. He was watching the blush start to deepen her cheek color as she kept looking straight at him. He locked gazes with her, making it obvious who she was looking at.

Ooh, yeah
Never be the same again

I call you up whenever things go wrong dow na now now
You're always there
You are my shoulder to cry on
I can't believe it took me quite so long
To take the forbidden step
Is this something that I might regret?

(Come on, on)
Nothing ventured nothing gained
(You are the one)
A lonely heart that can't be tamed
(Come on, come on)
I'm hoping that you feel the same
This is something that I can't forget

I thought that we would just be friends
Things will never be the same again
It's just the beginning it's not the end
Things will never be the same again
It's not a secret anymore
Now we've opened up the door
Starting tonight and from now on
We'll never, never be the same again
Never be the same again

Now I know that we were close before
I'm glad I realized I need you so much more
And I don't care what everyone will say
It's about you and me
And we'll never be the same again

I thought that we would just be friends (oh yeah)
Things will never be the same again (Never be the same again)
It's just the beginning it's not the end (We've only just begun)
Things will never be the same again
It's not a secret anymore
Now we've opened up the door (Opened up the door)
Starting tonight and from now on
We'll never, never be the same again
Never be the same again

Night and day
Black beach sand to red clay
The US to UK (hey
NYC to LA
From sidewalks to highways
See it'll never be the same
What I'm sayin'
My mind frame never changed until you came rearranged
But sometimes it seems completely forbidden
To discover those feelings that we kept so well hidden
Where there's no competition
And you render my condition
Though improbable it's not impossible
For a love that could be unstoppable
But wait. A fine line's between fate and destiny
Do you believe in the things that were just meant to be?
When you tell me the stories of your quest for me
Picturesque is the picture you paint effortlessly
And as our energies mix and begin to multiply
Everyday situations, they start to simplify
So things will never be the same between you and I
We intertwined our life forces and now we're unified

I thought that we would just be friends
Things will never be the same again
It's just the beginning it's not the end
Things will never be the same again

It's not a secret anymore
Now we've opened up the door
Starting tonight and from now on
We'll never, never be the same again (Come on, come on)
Things will never be the same again (You are the one)

Never be the same again
It's not a secret any more
We'll never be the same again
It's not a secret any more
We'll never be the same again
Never be the same again
Never be the same again
Never be the same again
Never be the same again
