“You know, it’s so easy to avoid someone when you throw up due to a confrontation with them.” Miley said, walking down the hallways with Kelsi.
“Which is very surprising because you have classes with him, you eat lunch with him every day and the five of us are always hanging out.” Kelsi added.
“Here it is, Homecoming time. It’s the end of September, and pretty much a whole month past that kiss and we’re still just friends. Which, by the way, isn’t that what I said we were?” Miley kept going.
“Yes. But, you do realize that we’re all riding to and from Homecoming together, and there is my pre-party.” Kelsi pointed out.
“I know that. But we can all arrive at Homecoming, hang out before hand, and not go to the dance as a couple.” Miley replied. Kelsi opened her mouth to say something but Miley held up a hand to stop her. “I know that’s why you’re bringing up the whole Homecoming plan now.”
“You don’t know that I was going to mention that. Or even ask you what color your dress is going to be.” Kelsi said.
“I haven’t bought my dress yet.” Miley replied.
“Do you realize that Homecoming is next week? All that’s left is reject taffeta and iridescent satin that clashes with the decorations.” Kelsi pointed out.
“Okay, Spaz, I have a dress. I just won’t tell you because I don’t want Kevin to show up on my front porch in a matching tux.” Miley replied.
“Then you’ll have to deal with you pictures not matching.” David said as he came over to the two girls.
“David, are you under this crazy impression that I’m going to Homecoming with Kevin?” Katie asked.
“No. I am under the impression that you and Kevin will be going to Homecoming together.” David quickly replied.
“See, it’s only a matter or time.” Kelsi added.
“Hey David?” Miley asked, as David turned towards her. “Will you go to Homecoming with me?”
David and Kelsi both stopped walking and exchanged a glance. “Uh…” David started.
“My dress is black, and my favorite flowers are lilies, sunflowers and daffodils.” Miley said before walking off.
“Way to go!” Kelsi said, smacking David on the arm.
“Hey, ow!” David said. “I didn’t know she was going to ask me!”
“You’re explaining this to Joe.” Kelsi said, pointing at David and then walking off.

“Are you girls excited? Homecoming is coming up.” Kevin asked as he sat down at the lunch table.
“Yay. Stale punch, horrible crackers, high heels that cut off circulation to my feet and a half dead corsage.” Miley said, playing with the apple crisp on her tray. “What is there really to look forward to that night anyways?”
“My pre-Homecoming party. We’re been planning it since last year. And you’re still crashing at my place after the dance.” Kelsi said.
“I might have to check with my date on that last part.” Miley replied, as Kevin coughed.
“Your date?” Kevin asked.
“Yeah, David and I are going together.” Miley answered, pointing to where Joe and David were walking towards the table. When David realized they were talking about his Homecoming plans, he turned and started to sneak off.
“Since when?” Joe asked, quickly grabbing David by the shoulder.
“Yesterday after school.” David slowly said as Joe led them to the table.
“You asked Miley?” Kevin questioned.
“Actually, she asked me.” David answered, trying to dig himself out of the hole he had suddenly found himself in.
“Really?” Joe asked, turning his attention to Miley.
“I just wanted to avoid any unwanted surprises.” Miley said, looking Joe in the eyes as she slowly took a bite of her apple crisp. She was mentally daring him to say something in response, but Joe just stood his ground.
Kevin stood up, grabbing his tray. “Where are you going?” Kelsi asked.
“I suddenly lost my appetite.” Kevin said, walking off.
