“So, with the new school year starting…” Kelsi started as she and Miley sat out on the beachside porch of the Locke home. They were sitting outside while they painted their toenails and fingernails.
“We’re just friends.” Miley said, setting the copper colored nail polish bottle on the table.
“You guys have never been just friends.” Kelsi replied. “But honestly, I just want to know. I mean, what with Joe and I dating now…”
“Kevin and I are just friends.” Miley repeated. “He and I have been raised together since birth. We were in children’s choir together. The guy is one of my best friends. I could never date him.”
“Joe and I have been raised together, and look at us.” Kelsi pointed out.
“Yeah, but Joe was always the weird one of the family.” Miley shot back.
“Well, he was but that’s beside the point.” Kelsi added. “The problem with you and Kevin is you like each other but neither of you will do anything about it.”
“I don’t like Kevin.” Miley quickly said.
“You kept saying his name in your sleep last night.” Kelsi retorted.
“Duh, I was having a nightmare.” Miley answered.
“Miley, maybe you should stop pretending.” Kelsi suggested.
“I’m not pretending.” Miley stated.
“Well good, because your nightmare hero is coming this way and it looks like he has his birthday present with him.” Kelsi warned as she noticed a couple on the beach.
“And what is that suppose….” Miley asked, as the sentence slowly stopped. “Is that Tessa?”
“Yep.” Kelsi replied.
“With Kevin?” Miley asked.
“Yep.” Kelsi replied. “She’s been after him all summer.”
“Since when?” Miley asked.
“Since she broke up with Conner Taylor.” Kelsi replied. “Guess it’s a good thing you don’t like him.” She added.
“Yeah.” Miley said, watching Kevin walk across the beach with the blonde. “Guess so.”
