The Toronto Star newspaper has always provided good wrestling coverage. But one day about five years ago, it provided a future wrestling star. The paper ran a contest urging readers to send in an essay saying why they wanted to be a pro wrestler. The winner was to receive free wrestling training from Ron Hutchison, one of the most respected trainers in the world who happens to be Toronto based. The winner of that contest was one Adam Copeland.

Copeland wasn't sure if he'd be a successful wrestler, as he only packed around 170 pounds on his 6'4" frame. But he proved to be a talented wrestler and with intense training was able to fill out his build. He trained alongside such notables as Tiger Ali Singh and WCW's Johnny Swinger. Upon completion of training, Adam took on the name Sexton Hardcastle, and along with fellow Hutchison graduate Christian Cage, he formed the team of the Suicide Blondes. The team wrestled all over the independent scene both in Canada, the United States and abroad. Copeland also participated actively as a singles wrestler, and was also apart of the team known as "Sex and Violence" with Joe E. Legend.

In March of 1998, Adam was invited to participate in the WWF's "Funking Dojo" training camp. He wrestled in several Raw dark matches, and teamed up on occasion with fellow Toronto native Sean Morley, now known as Val Venis. It was rumored that Copeland and Venis would become the new Midnight Express, but that didn't pan out. Instead, both men were offered individual contracts.

In June of 1998 after having appeared among the crowd on several Raw telecasts, Copeland made his Raw debut in a match against Jose Estrada Jr. of Los Boricuas. During the match, Edge (as Adam is now known) sailed over the ropes to deliver a somersault high-risk move to Estrada, who was on the floor. Copeland's leg struck Jose's head with great impact, causing the Los Boricua member to suffer a jammed neck, thus putting him on the shelf with the injury. The incident shook Adam up, but he returned to active competition in the WWF and scored impressive wins over the likes of Quebecer Pierre and Jeff Jarrett.

By the end of the summer of 1998, Edge had engaged in a bitter feud with Gangrel. There was talk that the two had some sort of a past, and the brawls that regularly ensued between them indicated that bad blood remained. Edge became one of the top contenders for the European title, but saw Gangrel interfere in title matches against D'Lo Brown, costing him his shot. Then on September 27, 1998, Gangrel continued to stack the odds as brought Edge's "brother" Christian into the WWF at IYH: Breakdown in Edge's home country of Canada. That became too much for Edge, and shortly after Breakdown he joined forces with Gangrel and Christian to form the Brood.

The Brood became a trio to be reckoned with in the WWF, enjoying success in singles matches as well as in pairs in the tag team division. And on February 1, 1999, they became members of the Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness, joining UT's mission to take ownership of the WWF away from Vince McMahon. Over time however, the Brood had a difference of opinion with the Ministry and split from the group, and shortly thereafter tension built up between Edge and Gangrel that caused the Brood to disband.

After spending a while in singles competition Edge was teamed up with close friend and on-screen "brother" Christian. The two made a good impact in the rapidly reviving WWF tag team division. They had several high risk matches with the Hardy Boyz and they should be credited for helping the tag team division to get back on its feet.

In late 1999 and early 2000 Edge and Christian have been in a lot of 4 way and 3 way matches for the tag team titles. At WrestleMania 2000 they defeated the Dudleys and the Hardy Boyz in a triple threat triangle match to claim the tag team titles. It was a big achievement for two little Canadian boys with big dreams.

On the personal side, Adam Copeland got engaged to his long time girlfriend on the WWF's 1999 "Wrestle Vessel" cruise. His girlfriend is the sister of Val Venis and her name is Allanah.

Edge is now a successful mid-card wrestler, as well as a former Intercontinental champion (after beating Jeff Jarrett on July 24, 1999 for the title, only to lose it back to Jarrett the next night). Edge also continues to team with Christian, with the two winning the WWF world tag team titles. Edge (and Christian) also developed a new cocky, arrogant attitude following the tag team title win.

Edge won the 2001 King of the Ring Tournament, setting himself up for a very successful title run with the Intercontinental Title.  Christian seemed to be overly obsessed with the title, though, and soon tension built up between the two brothers.  Before Survivor Series, Christian turned on his brother, attacking him with a chair and the KOTR trophy.  The two engaged in a bitter feud over the Intercontinental Title, which Edge had previously won from Lance Storm.  Christian won the title from Edge at Unforgiven, only to lose it to Edge at No Mercy.

Test and Edge began a feud over the belt, as Test won it form Edge on 05 November, 2001.  The tension between the WWF and the Alliance was building up, and Survivor Series was an all-or-nothing battle.  Edge was currently holding the US Title, Test the Intercontinental.  The match at Survivor Series was a unification match--whomever won still had a job, whomever lost was unemployed.  Edge successfully defeated Test to be the first unified US/Intercontinental title champion; Test, however, went on to win the Immunity Battle Royal.

At the 2002 Royal Rumble, William Regal challenged Edge to a title match after a bitter rivalry.  Brass knuckles and all, Regal won the title from Edge.  Currently, the two are still duking it out, and Edge has taken to a more psychotic type persona.

With the roster split come and gone, and Edge being drafted as the number six pick to Vince McMahon's Smackdown, things are looking up.  A feud with Kurt Angle has been reignited as the Regal and Edge are now on separate shows.
