Engagement

Our engagement was in the works for over half a year. Throughout this time Jesss friends and co-workers hypothesized that the engagement was coming at every significant date within those 6 months, however, I kept my plans silent. As spring of 2002 approached I suggested that we revisit Old Quebec City where we had spent our first vacation together almost three years ago. Our plans were to drive this time, instead of taking the train and stay at the same Bed & Breakfast we had on our first trip.

Upon arriving in the parking garage of the Chateau (where she thought we were supposed to park) Jess had one set of plans in mind while I had another. As we unloaded our bags I looked at Jess and said I have a surprise for you. Where not staying at the bed and breakfast were staying here at the Chateau. Jess was in a state of disbelief. We approached the chateaus elevators, bi-passing the main reception area. Once again, Jess was in a state of confusion asking if I had somehow already checked in by phone prior to our arrival. Once we entered the elevators I pressed the button for the 12th floor, the Entre Gold floor. Within the Chateau Frontenac, Entre Gold is considered a hotel within a hotel. It has a separate concierge for clients staying on the elite floors of the Chateau.

We spent three nights at the Chateau, yet it wasnt until the second evening that the engagement actually took place. I had made dinner reservations in one of the Chateaus finest restaurants for shortly after seven. We prepared for dinner and as we went to leave our room I told Jess that I had forgotten something. As she turned around she found me on one knee with a ring in hand and I said Weve spent three wonderful years together and if youre willing to come this far maybe youre willing to go a little further. Jessica I love you. Will you marry me? Her reply was oh my god followed by oh my god and several other oh my gods with a yes mixed in of course.
