TITLE: Who Are You?
CHAPTER: 3
AUTHOR: persistenceofmemory
DISCLAIMER: As usual, Joss
owns all I'm just borrowing his people.
RATING: R
PAIRINGS: A/S
A/N: If I don’t get more reviews then I’m going to put a
cliffhanger at the end of every damn chapter if I have to! I mean it! Okay so
where were we? William had just run out into the sun... lets see what happens.
Angel smirked
at the crunching sound Willie’s head made as he smashed it against the bar top.
He pulled the man’s head up to eye level and growled at him. “Now, I’m only
going to ask one more time, then you’re gonna lose something mighty important.”
Willie nodded as best he could, wincing slightly because of Angel’s tight grip
on his hair. “Good, now where is that warlock hiding?”
“I don’t
know.” Willie chocked out.
Angel slammed
his head on the counter again. “I tracked his blood to your bar Willie, he is or
was here. Now tell me!”
One more smack
on the counter and Willie talked, and talked and talked. “That warlock guy was
in here last night. He had a hole through his gut, looked like it was from a
stake or something. Anyways it didn’t look good, so I patched him up.” Willie
yelped in pain as Angel’s hand tightened its grip on his head and a deep growl
rose from the vampire’s chest.
“I didn’t know
that he messed with your boy, honest.” He said quickly. “Look, he’s hiding in
the caves down by the ocean. The ones the fire demon was camping in. I hope you
kill the bastard, lousy tipper.”
Angel let go
of Willie’s head, which smacked on the counter one last time before the man
fell to the floor. Angel walked towards the back entrance of the bar but was
stopped by a large, scaly demon. “What’re you doin’ in here soul boy? Thought
you left town.”
Angel glared
at the demon. “Family business.” He half growled. “Listen, I’m really not in
the mood for this so just get out of my way. Now.”
The demon
chuckled and grabbed Angel around the neck, easily lifting him off the ground.
“I don’t think so. I think I’m gonna do the demon world a favor and get rid of
the souled wonder.”
Before the
demon even had time to think, Angel struck. In the blink of an eye the demon’s
severed head rolled out the back door of Willie’s Place. The dark- haired
vampire turned and faced the room. “Anyone else have a problem?” He asked.
Angel chuckled slightly when no one dared to even move let alone say anything.
“Good.” With that he turned and went out the back door and jumped down the
sewer grate. He began to walk back to Buffy’s, he’d search for the dead man
walking after sun down.
“William no!”
Dawn shouted as the blonde ran out into the afternoon sun. Her yells had
summoned the rest of the gang from the living room, but they were to late.
William had
run out the door and immediately smashed into something very hard and very,
very solid. He fell to the ground just inside the kitchen door and looked up at
what he had hit. Standing over him was a large black man holding a very large
ax. William was about to ask whom the man was when he felt something cold
running down his face. He reached up a hand and touched his soar nose. He
pulled his hand away, his fingers were stained red. William passed out
immediately at the sight of blood, his head making a soft thud as it hit the
tile floor.
Dawn ran over
to Gunn and hugged him tightly. “Good god you have wicked timing!”
Gunn chuckled
and looked down at the girl. “Well I learned early on that it is not good to
lose the boss’ things.”
Wesley and
Cordelia came in behind Gunn and surveyed the scene. Spike, lying on the floor,
unconscious and bleeding. “Yep, we’re in Sunnydale.” Cordelia sighed, stepping
over, what she thought was Spike.
“Let’s get him
into a bed.” Wesley said, grabbing Spike’s body and hoisting him into a
firemen’s carry.
Once Spike was
safely in bed Buffy briefed the A.I. team about Spike's, or as they now knew
him, William’s condition. Wesley responded with his trademark “Oh dear.”
“Exactly what
I said.” Giles sighed.
“So where’s
Angel?” Cordelia asked. “Shouldn’t he be here?”
“He’s out
looking for the guy who did this.”
“Well Spike is
his mate.” Giles said, shifting the very heavy looking book on his lap. “It’s
in his nature to be protective.”
Gunn suddenly
stood up and surveyed the room. “Now, y’all know that I wanna help it’s just,
I’m not too good with research as much as beating faces in. Maybe I should hit
the streets, check the local demon bars.”
“Already did.”
Angel said as he walked in from the kitchen. “Willie told me where to find this
guy but I can’t go until after sun set. So I came back here to help with
research.” He sighed and sat down in a chair. His eyes looked around the room,
instantly finding Dawn. “Why aren’t you with William?”
Dawn opened
her mouth to explain but Angel was already out of his seat and half way up the
stairs before she could say a single word. Buffy followed Angel up the stairs
and got to him just as he found William lying in Buffy’s bed, unconscious.
“What happened?” Angel asked, tears chocking his voice.
“He tried to
leave.” Buffy said quietly. “Gunn caught him before he could go out into the
sun but he passed out when he saw the blood coming from his nose. He’ll be
fine.”
“Please
leave.” Angel whispered. Once Buffy was gone, he sunk to his knees next to the
bed and twined his fingers with William’s. He rested his head on the bed sheet
and began to hum softly. Angel soon felt William’s fingers curl absently around
his own. Angel smiled and his humming turned to singing.
“L, is for the
way you look at me, O, is for the only one I see, V is very, very
extraordinary...” He trailed off into humming again as he sat by William’s
side. Angel fought the urge to crawl into bed and wrap his arms around his
childe, William could wake up at any moment and he didn’t want to startle the
boy further.
Angel sat next
to the bed for a very long time, waiting for William to wake up. By sun down he
still hadn’t awoken and Angel had to leave. He stood up and dropped a gentile
kiss to William’s lips then whispered. “I will get you back Spike, I love you.”
He turned around and walked out the door. Angel no longer cared that the man
who did this was human, that warlock would pay for what he did.
Angel stormed
down the stairs and walked towards the front door. He was about to leave when
he was stopped by Buffy’s hand on his shoulder. He sighed, refusing to look at
her. “Please Buffy, just let me do this alone.”
“I was going
to say good luck.” She smiled, giving his shoulder a light squeeze before
letting go.
“Thanks.”
Angel said quietly. He stood for a moment, trying to pull himself together then
opened the door and walked out.
Buffy watched
him go then walked back into the living room. “I’m going to go check on
William, see if he’s up yet.”
“Okay Buff.”
Xander nodded.
“We’ll keep
researching.”
“Good.” Buffy
said half-heartedly then turned and walked up the stairs. She walked into the
room William was in and found nothing but an empty bed where there should be a
bleached British vampire. Buffy’s eyes widened and she looked around the room
franticly. There was no sign of him. The blonde turned on her heal and ran down
stairs. Running into the living room she shouted. “William’s gone!”
