Duo POV
Disclaimer: I know I don’t own them, you know I don’t own them, so why do you make me burst my delusional bubble and make me say it?
//blah// = Duo hearing a conversation that takes place elsewhere.
*blah* = Duo speaking to someone in his head… can be considered a spell
/blah/ = Someone’s thoughts that Duo can hear.

I can’t believe a whole year has past since I was first brought here and believe it or not, Heero has been true to his word and hasn’t laid a hand on me. Okay, so we cuddle in bed and he kisses me on the forehead but other than that, I have no cause for complain. He really is rather different that I thought he would be. I always thought I’d be dead by now, but that goes to show how limited my psychic powers are. Still, I can’t help that sense of foreboding that’s been creeping around the edges of my consciousness. Its as though I know this is the calm before the storm and I’m not sure I like that feeling.
I don’t want to worry Heero, though. It doesn’t feel like there’s any threat coming to him or his kingdom, it feels more like there’s something out there to get me. I don’t know, I’m probably being paranoid, but still…
“Duo!”
I turn to look at Meiran.
“Hey, Mei! What are you doing out here?” She has an armful of baby Lin and I just know she’s going to ask me to baby sit.
“Well, Duo… seeing as you have the day off from being with His Majesty, I was wondering if you could look after Lin for me. I’ll need to be fitted for some new gowns and you know how she gets.”
I smile and take the infant in my arms. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have some company while I sit by the pond and feed the ducks all day. “No problem Lady Mei.”
She flushes at my use of honorifics, I guess being a slave all your life will do that to you. I should know.
She leaves just as quickly as she arrived and I’m left looking down at a beautiful baby girl. She has the same olive skin as her mother and black silk for hair. She’s going to be a fiery one, that’s for sure. Both her parents are strong willed and I can already see it in her onyx sloe eyes that she won’t easily pushed aside.
“You’re going to have a long, happy life, little Lin. You’ll grow up to be a strong and wise woman and one day, you too might rule.”
Lin gurgled up at me smiling and wrapping her pudgy little fingers around my index finger, then bought his hand down to suck on it.
“Eww, Lin, that’s gross!” I pull my finger from her mouth then wipe it on my pants.
//Are you sure that daemon boy is around here?// A voice brings me out of my fond teasing of baby Lin.
//Yeah, I saw him come up this way earlier. Besides, that Shinigami kid always comes to the lake when our *beloved* king is otherwise busy.//
Oh shit. I’ve been able to hear thoughts before, but I think this is an actual conversation…I look around but I don’t see anyone yet. I place a hand over Lin’s face and she’s instantly asleep. Amazing the way things just come to me when I’m in a bind. I look around at the remains of my one-person picnic and throw what I didn’t eat into the lake. I then wrap Lin up in the blanket I’m sitting on and place her under a bush then cover her with the basket to protect her from the twigs and things that may scratch her little face.
*Please, Lin, don’t wake up until a friend arrives. When you sense a friend is near, wail to that your cries reach their ears.*
Just as I step away from the bush and Lin, I walk back towards the edge of the lake. Hopefully, the people that are hunting me won’t find her.
/I see you, Shinigami./
I feel a sharp pain in my neck and my knees buckle from under me. I hope they didn’t see Lin. I try to get my eyes to focus, but things are only getting darker.
