| In the beginning there were only two races. The Celestials who stood for order, the Demons who stood for chaos, and added into the mix were the dragons that served them both. For centuries the two waged war against each other, using the dragons as weapons. Then one day something new was added to the mix. A group of creatures breached the dimensional wall surrounding Myrithica in a last desperate attempt to escape their own war-ridden world. Humans.
Becoming trapped in this world after making their first teleportation, they attempted to settle, but they found this to be impossible when faced with the current conditions. The Demons wouldnt accept them because of their lack of power, and the Celestials wouldnt accept them because the humans couldnt conform to their form of order. With the war continuing on, many humans were lost in the crossfire. For a long time there was havoc until two people stepped forward, Habinar and Lile. Unable to stand the constant battles and slaughter, they decided to take action to try to stop the war. Choosing the best of the three involved, they chose the dragons, which in their eyes were only doing what their masters forced them to. With their knowledge they fused the dragons energy to the magical web that covered the world, turning them into a kind of support, making it so it would be too dangerous for them to be used as weapons. For should there numbers get too low the world would begin to crumble. In the process Habinar and Lile accidentally fused themselves to it as well. Unfortunately, it turned out that they underestimated the two races hatred for each other. Even with the risk of total destruction should the dragons die out, they fought on. Not relenting in their mission to destroy each other. However, they refused to give up, despite this failure. It took them years to figure out how to use there new abilities, gained by the accident that fussed them to the net, heavily motivated by the deaths of those around them. When they finally thought themselves capable, they divided the world into three parts. The Overworld where they banished the Celestials, the Underworld where they banished the Demons, and the Surface that acted as a barrier separating the two. In the battles that ensued many Demons and Celestials were killed while resisting, refusing to give up the fight. Eventually both were forced into exile, there numbers greatly reduced from what they were before. Not knowing of the bond between the dragons and their masters. The humans were forced to watch horrified as many dragons killed themselves at their Masters death, some in the most horrific ways imaginable; bashing their heads against the ground, spearing themselves on rocks, launching themselves off cliffs, others teleported themselves to the void suffocating themselves to death. In the end hundreds of the beasts lay dead, scattered across the landscape. Their corpuses were later burned and the stench covered the land reminding everyone of what had been lost. With the war ended, the humans took over the Surface. Unfortunately, there was an aftereffect the humans didnt foresee. In dividing the world into three parts they stretched the dimensional wall, and as such, holes started to form, creating portals that lead into other worlds. In order to isolate the damage, and to keep the Celestials and Demons contained, Habinar and Lile strengthened the walls around the Overworld and Underworld by sacrificing the strength of the Surface. Portals on the Surface tripled as a result. They battled against the portals for a long time, trying to keep dangerous outsiders from entering; during this many others came through, monsters, tribes, and individuals alike. But it was a loosing battle, with the number of dragons so low, the energy available wasnt nearly enough for the wall to recreate itself. In the end to keep the world from falling apart, Habinar and Lile sacrificed themselves. Leaving their twin children in the care of friends; they go into a comatose state, where they spend many years holding the walls together. * * * With the war ended the dragons flourished in those peaceful times. Their natural instinct to fiercely protect their young only made their numbers grow faster. However, the humans where unaware of their abilities, so most were wild and under no ones control. These times also gave the Celestials and Demons time to recover from there losses. With the few dragons remaining to each side; they were less a commodity then they were before. That hardly stopped them. Counting on Habinar and Lile to remain asleep they armed themselves for battle, and both sides prepared to storm the Surface and take back what each thought was rightfully theres. Marching on the Surface the drums could be heard all over. Seeing the marching armies over the horizons, lookouts run and lit the signals warning the surrounding villages and the main fortress that danger approaches. Giving up their homes to the marching armies the villagers fall back, taking refuge in the fortress built for the eventuality that these events might take place. The Demons struck first, burning the villages and fields behind them. Those with the ability, fly at the fortress only to be repelled by a barrier created by the few who could wield magic effectively. Bringing the dragons forward; they shatter the barrier with little effort. Laughing in triumph, the first wave of demons fly into the fortress many meeting there death on the wrong end of arrows and spears, but its not enough. Soon the ramparts are over run with demons and that battle has become a slaughter. Inside the castle, Habinar and Liles children are guarded by their watcher brandishing a sword; she can hear the gates of the fortress brake open with the force of the demons outside as well as the screams of the dieing. Grabbing hold of the children she takes them to the Sleeping chamber, Stay here. she commands them. Leaving the room and locking the door behind her, she goes to join in the battle. The Fortress was about to be over run when the Celestial army shows up. Hating them more then they hate the Humans, the Demons break off there attack and go after the opposing army. Taking advantage of the break the humans regroup into the fortress barricading the doors behind them. * * * The two armies converged on each other, more then ready to attack. Surprisingly, Maran, the war leader for the Celestials, called a halt right before the two masses collided. No one knows how they did it, but some how the two armies formed a temporary truce and turned there attention on the waiting fortress. This may have been there biggest mistake however, because there is a lot that can be done in the time it takes to make an uneasy alliance. * * * Inside the castle, the Humans stand around, crammed tight together in the limited space, a few looking through windows and slits trying to see whats going on outside. Looking on in horror as the two armies head toward them, There coming. The watchers shout warning the others. Panic almost brakes out as some begin to realize what that means. Elsewhere, in the chamber the children stay close to their parents who are long past feeling their physical presence, though not their spiritual one. Even in there comatose state they new something was wrong. Filled with fear for those that they were trying to protect; they didnt know that someone else heard them. Salmnet, the gray rainbow dragoness, one of the oldest and largest of the dragons, sensed the humans fear. Leaving her lair in the Smoky Mountains, she spreads her wings letting the wind carry her to the battle. * * * In the Fortress the humans prepare for the onslaught, enforcing the barricade, on the main doors, and blocking as many holes as they could to keep out arrow and spear fire though it would do little against magic. The two armies were prepared to descend on the almost defenseless fortress when a roar shakes the very bones of the combatants. * * * Flying over the fortress, her shadow blocks out the sun before she lands in front of the fortress protectively. None of the dragons being willing to face her head on they back away. Those so inclined whisking there bonds away with them Looking around there were only the two armies to worry about. Roaring loud enough to send those in flight backwards, she takes flight knocking over those on the ground. Sweeping down she sends those on the ground flying. In the fortress the humans cheered as the dragon sent the armies scattering. That was when Farnaan, the demon who would later take on the name of Master, decided to fight back. Shedding his human form, an image that many demons had taken on so as to hide there true power, he grew in size and strength. Facing the dragoness head on, the two engaged each other in a fight to the finish. In the battle Salmnet was mortally injured and died. If not for Habinar and Liles interference it would have been the end of that. Somehow they saved her, preserving her spiritual essence, the process somehow making her stronger. As the demons screamed in triumph over her dead corps, and the Celestials made there way back to the fortress, the wind picked up. Noticing that there was something wrong their cries slowly stopped. Out of the air a shape made of gray fire formed; after a roar comes out of nowhere, the fire streaked forward, those hit first were incinerated. Running for their lives, a small number of survivors managed to make it to safety. Circling around the fortress the fire disappears in a puff of smoke. Inside the Sleeping chamber a sparkling light brightens up the room. Wrapping around the children, they disappear along with it in a flash of light. When the Watcher comes back later to find the chamber empty a search begins, but they never find them. * * * Habinar and Liles children were never seen again, but years after two figures appear at the fortress (now the Light Castle) walls. Forcing there way inside, they head strait to the Sleeping Chamber. Resting their hands on Habinar and Lile, the two sleeping humans fade away. Sealing the doors behind them, they take there own places there. Undisturbed until one day another pair takes there place. * * * It was generations before a heir was born that could perform there duties without going comatose. When that day arrived, the royal line was created. |
