Traveling through the mountain passes, Blitz can feel eyes on them, but when he looks he cant see whos following.  Something wrong? Serine asks noticing his wariness. No, At least I dont think so. He says trying not to worry her.
She had missed her cycle, and she was starting to suspect she was pregnant, confused she had confided her fears to him. Not being sure, all they could do was wait and see want would happen.
Hearing a pile snow fall, he cant hold his suspicions any longer. Ill be right back. He whispers to her before the wind picks up making a small blizzard, and he disappears. Whats going on? Serine thinks to herself while keeping the oxen moving.
It wasnt long after he disappeared that a figure could be seen walking toward them. Putting up her hand to block her eyes from the suns glare, she calls out, Hello. Coming in sight is a girl, pale with bleach white hair and there seems to be something familiar about her. Hello. Serine says again. The girl lifts up her hand and it starts to glow. Giving a growl, Ersleth jumps in front of her, protecting her bond.
Before the girl does anything the wind picks up lifting the snow with it blocking everything from view. Will it dies down again the girl is standing there with Blitz grabbing onto her hand, looking at her furiously, You touch her, and Ill tare you apart little sister. He growls.

3 years earlier.

A boy and girl crouch behind a snow pile watching a caravan pass through the mountain pass. What are you doing? a voice whispers in the girls ear. Turning their heads their older brother Blitz is crouching behind them. We could ask the same thing, she throws at him. Lets go, he says grabbing his brother and pulling him along. Scowling, she reluctantly follows behind, but not before giving the caravan a last scolding look.
When they get back to their cave in the mountain side; they pull the flap back to show a cozy, if well lived in, dwelling. Inside is an adult, Hello Father. Blitz says walking in, his brother and sister behind him. He looks up to acknowledge his childrens presence then looks back down at the pot hes stirring.
During their supper, What did any of you do today? their father asks, giving Lorwin a side- long glance. Nothing she says quickly. Really, surely you did something today? Actually father, I found them in a rather interesting place. Blitz interjected. Oh really, and where would that be? his voice lowering. On the ridge, he stats. Again? their father looks over at Lorwin, Weve had this discussion. I told you youre not to go near there! he scolds for what must be the hundredth time. Why not, just because humans use it? she protests almost standing up in her anger. No, because I told you to! He yells at her loud enough to make her sit down, but not enough to shake her anger. Now, I will tell you one more time, he says, his voice cold, You are forbidden to go there again.

Later

What do you think you were doing? Lorwin yelling at Blitz with their other brother watching. Whatever do you mean? he asks not looking up. How dare you say something like that in front of father? she says still in a rage. Well, if you werent so obsessed with going out there I wouldnt have to tell him. You shouldnt have told him anyway. Why? he asks looking up at her with a smile, enjoying pulling her chain. Because. She says, her 10 year old mind giving the universal answer for when there isnt an answer. Then something accurse to her, After all, Father saying we werent allowed there didnt stop you now did it?
Before she knows whats happening, shes up against the wall with her brothers hand around her throat. Dont you ever bring that up again. It was stupid, and you have no business bringing that up. He says fiercely. Oh, really, she says smiling at him, knowing that what she had said had no real relevance, she just wanted to get under his skin. She didnt guess how much it would bother him. Pulling his fist back, he came just inches from punching her in the face. That was when he was attacked from behind.
When he wasnt looking, his brother Soren had tackled him to get him off there sister. Being afraid that he actually might hurt her. Get off of me. Blitz tells him, letting go of Lorwin. Promise to be good. Soren orders in his simple way. Alright, he says calming down a little. Soren lets him go. Turning back to his sister, he didnt see the rock that bashed him in the head knocking him out.

Looking at her unconscious brother, she smirks at her accomplishment, Not an army just one person. She says cocky at getting the upper hand on him. What are you doing? her brother asks scared. Calm down. Come on and help me. She says grabbing Blitzs arms. What are you doing? Soren asks again. Look either help or be quiet. She orders. Closing his mouth he follows them, but doesnt do anything. Slowly, she takes him to the ridge. There she says looking down at him. Lets go. She says grabbing Soren. What you doing? he asks looking behind them while hes being dragged. Dont worry. Hell be fine. Its just a game. She says trying to get him to cooperate. Taking his sister at her word he follows willingly.
They had only moved away a few yards when the ground seemed to shake slightly. The snow under their feet slid down the slope. Oh no. Lorwin says a look of horror on her face. Running back down the slope with the snow she doesnt make it in time to keep Blitz from falling over the side of the ridge. Landing right in front of a human caravan. No. she says as she sees one of them find him and watches as hes carried into one of there wagons by one of the humans.
Come on. She says grabbing Soren and running off.
