Writing: A Long Trip
The writing process is a long trip. The hardest part is preparing for the trip. There are many things you need to do before I can leave. For a trip, I must pack your bags and car with most of the things needed while away from the house. It's impossible to remember everything; something almost always gets left behind. Then when the actual trip begins it flows somewhat smoothly. But the very first thing that needs to get done is packing.
The packing of the writing process is known as prewriting. When packing, I must gather everything I need to start my paper. Of course, I need my pen and paper but I also need my ideas for my paper. My ideas are the clothing I will need on my trip. It's very difficult to start a paper with no idea of what I want to write. So I sit down and begin to gather all my material. Most of the papers I've gotten in college this semester, I've been given a general topic and was told to pick a specific topic. My ideas are put down on my paper which is the same as filling my suitcase with clothing. Sometimes my suitcase is filled to the brim, other times it's nearly empty. Once all my ideas are organized and packed in my suitcase, I start my trip.
My trip consists of actually writing my paper. The trip can range anywhere between thirty minutes to three hours. This helps prove the importance of packing. The better I packed my thoughts, the easier writing my paper will be. The trip has its stops and goes. Sometimes the trip will continue for hours before it hits a roadblock. When it hits this roadblock, the paper just stops. This could mean I had to stop for food or just that words disappeared. Once I'm refilled, hopefully I can finish my trip. Before the trip can be finished, there is always one final roadblock I reach. That roadblock is proofreading. Once proofreading is finished, I must fix the errors made in my paper. Proofreading is the same as checking the map to see if I'm going in the right direction. After all the roadblocks I reach my final destination. Once I reach my destination I have my final paper.
The final product is always my destination in my writing trip. Once I reach my destination, the paper is turned in for evaluation and grading. Evaluation and grading are the scale by which I rate the excitement on my trip. The higher the grade, the more exciting the trip was. Reaching the final destination is always relieving. Once there, I know that there is no more worrying about whether I'm going get to my destination on time or if I'm even going to finish my trip. I take this trip many times throughout a semester. Some trips I get the excitement I want, other trips just aren't as exciting as others.
