Dan Johnson’s review of the 2004 USBA Nationals

These are just a few of my thoughts from nationals- it was my first tournament (woot!) and I thought of a couple of things to comment on.  The discussion session was very neat- thanks Dr. Fred for the good discussion of boomerang physics. :) We will have to iron out that dihedral theory and see if it holds water. ;) I definitely agree with Betsy that this should continue- it was a neat way for everyone to learn from, and bounce ideas off of, each other.  It was really neat to go to this tournament not really knowing anyone, and yet, everyone was very welcoming and friendly, which says a lot for the sport. Part of this was created by the Pro/Am Team day - what a great opportunity for the new people to get used to competing, and be coached by the best. I know that some felt that this was detrimental to the individual competition the next day (I was tired and sore too :D ) - so I just wanted put in the perspective of someone new to boomerang competition, and how much that helped me meet people, and get the knowledge I needed for the next day.  Best of luck to those headed to Kitty Hawk!
