My life in US
| 1.No
Saddam, but No War
At ET 7:00pm, 18th of March 2003, USA
I was watching TV in the hotel,
President Bush was giving the speech; and the operation for Iraq
freedom was to begin in just 48 hours, because I think Saddam would
reject the ultimatum and stay in Iraq. In my opinion, I don't like
war, but I don't trust in Saddam government either. If the war could
not be avoided, then please make it a quick one. US people may never
know why their country always takes part in the wars against other
countries...
(48 hours later, US launched the War on Iraq. Cruise missile and bombs hit Baghdad site…) 2. Security
At ET 9:00pm, 21st of March 2003, USA
The helicopter is always doing the
orbiting and the Police cars go round and round in the city, with
alarm whistle on all the time. The security alert goes up to Red,
which means it is very dangerous in the US mainland, in the sense of
terrorism.
This is the picture of the country under Red alert: you have to spend 2 hours to do the security check in airport, because there are many security check stations along the road from urban district to the airport. Every single person needs go through a set of complex security check program: One station before airport about 20 kilometers, this is the first checking, wherever you go. Secondly, at the gate of the airport, selection checking, for cars and luggages. The third one is checked in duration security check, of course this is standard procedure, to be able to ensure safety for every single detail in your luggage and your carrier, even shoes as well. So, the last check is also selection checking, before you enter boarding gate... Although the program is complex, stricter security makes many feel safer… 3. New York City after 911
Memories on Grand Zero
At ET 9:30pm 22nd of March 2003, USA
"Hey Paul, It's been a year and
a half almost; I don't know how you'd feel about what's going on
in the world today. I only wished you lived, so you can see for
yourself…" the message showed on one of memorial for
"911", when terrorist attack killed over 2500 people in
NY.
Looking at the remains of World Trade Center, the memories made me sad. Where is the world going today? While the recap of WTC is in operation, the War on Iraq is also going on. "I only wished you lived". Suddenly I want to ask the person who wrote the message: who do you wish that could live.. Just Americans or do you mean Iraqi people too... 4. No car, no way NT City Night
At ET 7:20pm 24th of March 2003, USA
This is the first time for me to be
in the US, among all the fresh feelings on my trip, the importance
of the car is the most unforgettable one in my mind. Almost every
single person has his/her own car, you cannot see anybody walking
on the street in some small cities like Dallas, unless it is in
the bigger cities, like New York or LA etc.
You have to drive to everywhere if you want to meet somebody or even to have dinner, which makes someone who doesn't have a car, someone like me, very unconvenient. Taxi is rare too. Of course you can book a TAXI via phone call, but the expensive taxi fee and the long hour waiting could drive you nuts. Hence, rental car would be a good idea for those travelers, certainly the US drive license is a must, which, unfortunately, I don't have... All the above are just my feelings and thinkings while I was in the USA. I would like to share these interesting things with every one of you, any suggestions, please send email to me. Appreciated to share every interesting story...
