I have always enjoyed beauty culture. As a little kid, I would do my babysitter's hair. Then, when I was allowed to wear make-up, I was constantly getting books from the library to see how to apply it properly. I also organized an on-line beauty tips news letter for girls. I thought I would enjoy doing cosmetology so we started looking into the schools around the area. Then, I heard that the Albany Boces had a cosmetology program. We called to see what it would take to get me in the program, since I am home schooled, and found that my public school district would pay for me to go. I decided I would try it. I enjoyed my first year a lot, and I was able to graduate to the senior cosmetology class.
Cosmetology can be a very tough course. To pass with good grades, it is very important that you are not absent from class, and that you listen and do the work the teacher gives, and that you hand in your homework assignments on time or early. I am pretty diligent and able to do the work needed in the time allotted. This is a quality I will need to pass the course this year and will also be a great asset in college. This year in cosmetology I hope to master the skills I learned my junior year and to thoroughly learn and apply the new skills I will be learning. One main area I need to focus on is my speed and neatness. I need to work on focusing on both at the same time. If I allow myself to focus on just one, then I will fail on the other. My goal out side the specific work, is to pass the course with decent grades. Then, to get my New York State cosmetology license.
I am looking to use my NYS cosmetology license to work my way through college. The skills I get in this class I will also be able to use for the rest of my life on family and friends. In college, I am looking to study primarily music, mostly in piano and voice. I will probably minor in home economics, focusing on interior decorating, clothing design and cooking.
Now that I have gone over my goals, present and future, and the reason I am taking cosmetology, I will outline them in brief. I decided to take cosmetology because I enjoy it and it will be a tool I can use to work myself through college. To finish this year well, I will need to work hard and keep up with the assignments. Next fall, I am looking at attending college and using my New York State cosmetology license to work my way through. I enjoy cosmetology and look forward to this year being productive in my educational and personal gowth.
