Frankie Stein & His Ghouls?

Don't remember them? Well, they are a big part of SuperRock history. In fact, they supplied the "voices" of Ridgway's famous weirdos, Penny & Darwin, from the early days (1979-1980) when WRCK was teamed with WMKB (especially that living legend, M.O.T.S!) producing all kinds of wild n' wonderful "radio" shows that entertained so many back in those days.

Describing his/their music is a bit of a task. Frankie has been called "the Spike Jones of horror music." Horror-surf music is more like it. Heavily filled with surf-style guitar, sound effects, screams and general chaos. However, it really needs to be heard to be understood. And even that might not do it.
Anyway, I had three Frankie Stein & His Ghouls albums (there were five produced) given to me by my brother, Don, back in about...oh, 1969 or 1970. I played them over and over and over. The sounds I heard not only intrigued me, but sometimes they down right gave me the creeps. I used to listen to them for hours on end in the gloom of my basement on a small record player - along with childhood friends Bob Emigh, Dean Paige, Tony Asti, Mike Roselli and Diane Carpen.

They were my first experience with rock-flavored music. Suddenly I was blaring out Frankie Stein & His Ghouls and ditching the Walt Disney records! Every one of us loved horror movies, Aurora monster model kits, board games ("Which Witch?" "Dark Shadows") magazines ("Famous Monsters of Filmland") and comic books ("Werewolf By Night" my personal favorite!) and these records were the perfect musical accompaniment to all our favorite frightening things!

I'm glad to say I still have every item mentioned above stored safely away. However, my three Frankie Stein albums have been cover-less for 35 years and not in the best condition. So, when I started searching out these long out-of-print gems on Ebay, I found them extremely pricey! Sometimes commanding $75 or more.

However, I stumbled upon a website that was a treasure trove of information on Frankie Stein. After scanning through it, I was VERY glad I did. What I found jarred my memories and brought Frankie Stein back from the dead.

These five classic albums have been put on a 2-CD set and are now available for the first time! I plan on getting my copy ASAP. Anyway, check out this excellent website and find out more about these lost classics of the 60's. I know you'll find this tour of the bizarre to be a SCREAM!
