Herr's Chapel Cemetery
Herr's Chapel Cemetery was founded by Reverend Benjamin Herr and was associated with his chapel.  It is located near Wildwood Country Club, just north of Pittsburgh, PA.   In fact, the country club now sits on land once owned by Rev. Herr's father Benjamin.  Benjamin Herr, the father, also owned Herr's Island, which today is called Washington's landing.

Reverend Herr attended Xenia Presbyterian Seminary on North Avenue on Pittsburgh's North Side.  While attending the seminary he stayed with William Henry Herr in Pittsburgh because his own home was too far away.

Herr's Chapel Cemetery is in a small wooded area on Sample Road .  It is on the border of McCandless and Hampton townships.  If you are coming from McKnight Road, the cemetery is about 50 feet past Northgate Drive.  There is a small red building on the left and the cemetery is on the right.

Over the years, the cemetery has become overgrown and is difficult to spot from the road.  Right before the cemetery is a sign saying "Golf Cart Xing" and the cemetery is across the street from one of the holes of the Wildwood Country Club.  It is marked by a hand-carved wooden sign.

Upon finding the Herr's Chapel Cemetery sign -- this is a wooded area--, walk about 60 paces and look to the right.  There you will see the first headstone.

For genealogy purposes, my sister Terri and I have written down as much information as we could from every headstone in the cemetery.

There are twenty-four (24) headstones in the cemetery.  There are also at least four (4) stones, without wording.
