EDWIN AND EMMA METZ WERKHEISER HOME PAGE

        Some of the following information is from the History of Northampton County, Pennsylvania - Volume, page 563 and 564.

        2314. Edwin Werkheiser (12/15/1842-9/27/1907) married Emma Metz (8/31/1844-9/14/1915) on June 3, 1865. Edwin was born in Forks Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He was engaged as a general merchant all of his life, beginning as a clerk in Easton, Pennsylvania, then establishing a store in Belfast, which he conducted for eight years, and in 1876 moved to Wind Gap in the same county, where he conducted business for thirty-one years.
        He was a man of energy and public spirit, serving as school director, town councilman, and an all around citizen, who until the day of his death, held the high regard of his fellow men. He was a prominent member of the Lutheran Church, serving as a turstee, deacon, treasurer and elder. He was one of the organizers of the First National Bank of Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, and from its organization until a few years prior to his death he was a director and its honored president. He was also treasuer of the Wind Gap Slate Company for a number of years. Edwin and Emma are buried in the Plainfield Cemetery. Edwin and Emma had three children:

        23141. William D. Werkheiser (6/15/1866-4/22/1943) married Clara Savitz (d. 7/14/1963) in June of 1891. William was born in Plainfield Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He was educated in the public schools of Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, and Trach's Academy, Easton, Pennsylvania, taking a commercial course at the latter institution. He then entered mercantile life in the store of his father, established in 1876. The business is located in Wind Gap, and is a modern general store. William with his brother George, succeeded the father as head of the business, and they have conducted it successfully.
        William is a director of the Second National Bank of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, director and secretary of the Arvon Slate Company of Wind Gap,and secretary of the Wind Gap Cemetery Company. He is a Democrat in politics, has served as secretary of the Borough Town Council since 1901, and since 1914 has been postmaster of Wind Gap. He is a member of the Masonic order, Order Partiotic Sons of America, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, in which he served in various offices and as treasurer of the Sunday School.
        He is held in high regard by his townsmen, and is one of the strong, influential men of his community. William is buried in the Plainfield Cemetery and Clara is buried in the Wind Gap Cemetery. Clara is the daughter of Moses and Catherine Rissmiller Savitz. They had two chldren:
        231411. Harold E. Werkheiser (8/14/1893-12/1962) married Elizabeth Boehmer (d. 4/30/1979). Harold is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1915. He was connected with Weaver's Pharmacy in Easton, Pennsylvania. They are buried in the Easton Heights Cemetery.
        231412. Bertram M. Werkheiser (1901-1/25/1974) married Naomi L. Brong on October 24, 1931 in the Trinity Church at Coplay, Pennsylvania. Bertram appears to be the only known Werkheiser minister in our "frinedschafft". Bertram was a pastor of the former Coplay-Mickleys Reformed charge, 1931-40, when he accepted a call as pastor of the Grace United Church of Christ in Philadelphia, where he served until 1958. He was pastor of the St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Philadelphia from 1958-67. At the time of his death, he was an associate pastor of the Salem Zion United Church of Christ in Philadelphia.
        Bertram was born in Wind Gap and graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1924 at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He taught social studies at Freeland High School from 1924-25, and at Pen Argyl High School from 1925-28. He graduated from the Theological Seminary at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1931. He was ordained in 1931.
        He was president of the North Central Ministerium from 1952-58 and secretary/treasurer of the organization from 1944-52. He was treasurer of the Interdenominational Ministerial Association of Philadelphia for 16 years, he had been vice president of the board of trustees of the Protesant Home for the Aged in Philadelphia, since 1965, and former board secretary for Reformed Church Home for the Aged in Philadelphia. He was a Phi Beta Kappa Society. He received the degree of Master of Sacred Theology from the Union Theological Seminary, New York, in 1941.
        Naomi is the daughter of the Rev. William H. Brong, a minister of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. Naomi is a graduate of Ursinus College and received a Master of Arts degree from Boston University.
        23142. Anne E. Werkheiser (10/13/1872-7/22/1951) married ? Seiple. They are buried in the Plainfield Cemetery. They had one child:
        231421. Floyd M. Seiple (7/9/1896-1/11/1897) and buried in the Plainfield Cemetery.
        23143. George S. Werkheiser (10/12/1878-3/12/1948) married Clara Russell (7/21/1876-1/22/1935). George was born in Wind Gap and Clara was born in Forks Township. They are buried in the Plainfield Cemetery. George was in business with his brother William. He was a constable for many years. They had four children:
        231431. Russell A. Werkheiser (b. 10/7/1900) married Lucinda Edwards. Lucinda was the daughter of John and Mary Beaumont Edwards. They had two children:

        2314312. James E. Werkheiser was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
        231432. Ralph E. Werkheiser (b. 2/6/1906) married Evelyn Wilson (b. 2/4/1906) on June 25, 1927, by the Rev. Luther Klick of the Parsonage at the Lutheran Church in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. Ralph retired from the Easton Post Office in 1963. Ralph and Evelyn were born in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. They had two children:
        2314321. Audrey R. Werkheiser married Joseph Lambert. Auderey and Joseph were born in Easton, Pennsylvania. They had four children:
