Blue Coach Tours bought five Swifts while the model was in production. J 24457 is one of the
earlier three vehicles bodied by Wadham Stringer bodied. Seen in summer 1993, it is parked at
Gorey in summer in the company of JMT 45 which is waiting to leave for St Helier on route 1.
This was at a time when Blue Coach Tours was still part of the Modern Hotels Group, and well
before any prospect of a buyout by Tantivy emerged. This Swift has since been re-numbered 15.
The standard BCT fleetname of
the time can be seen above the windscreens, and the white headrests inside are also visible.
The Vanguard II is basically a bus body with a few coach refinements: Wadham Stringer did
produce bespoke coachwork for the Swift, which was similarly-styled and christened Winchester,
but no examples of this rare body type presently exist in Jersey for whatever reason;
it may have been that it exceeded the restrictive Jersey size regulations.
