Someone Special ~

Katrina Walker-Reed and her mother, Nicole Walker Brady walked into the Brady Pub one August afternoon and were immediately greeted by Caroline Brady.

Hello Nicole, Katrina.

Hi Caroline. Nicole smiled warmly at her grandmother-in-law.

Hello Caroline. Katrina looked around at the decorated pub. Whats going on?

A welcome home party for Shawn Douglas.

Oh thats right. I forgot hes coming home today.

Well of course thats not the only reason todays special. Caroline went behind the bar and took out a wrapped package. Handing it to Katrina, she smiled and said, Happy birthday dear.

Thank you Caroline. Kat smiled and hugged the older woman. I didnt think

You didnt think Id remember?

Well with Shawn Douglas coming home and all I know how important this time is to you.

Nonsense. A girl only turns eighteen once and its a very special occasion.

Thank you.

What are your plans?

Daddy and Sarah are taking me to a play tonight and dinner afterwards and then Ill be coming here for the festivities. Eric insisted I come even though I dont have a strong memory of Shawn Douglas.

How is he anyway Caroline? Last communication Eric and I got he was in Paris doing something or other. Nicole asked as she and Kat sat at the counter.

Construction. Our Brady boys are good with their hands.

They sure are. Nicole murmured.

Mom. Katrina said.

What?

I really do not need to hear sexual innuendoes and I dont think Caroline does either.

Katrina Elisabeth Walker-Reed that was not a sexual innuendo so get that mind of yours out of the gutter.

Sorry Mom.

Well you should be. Caroline turned away and Nicole winked at her daughter before turning back to Caroline.

Thanks Daddy. I had a great time with you and Sarah.

Well I know it wasnt the wild time you had on your sixteenth birthday. Katrina giggled at her fathers statement. But Im glad you let me and Sarah take you out tonight. It means a lot to your old man to spend his little girls birthday with her.

Oh Daddy. Kat hugged Austin and kissed his cheek. Then she waved to Sarah before she went into the Pub.

Kat! Youre here. Happy birthday sis. Nick Brady hugged his older half-sister as he greeted her.

Thanks Nick. I loved your present.

Did you like mine Kat? Erica Brady came up to her half-sister and brother.

I loved your drawing of me and you on the beach Erica. Kat slid an arm around her sisters shoulders. I loved all my presents this year.

Well you havent gotten all your presents this year big sister. Elijah McIntyre-Reed walked up to his half-sister and her siblings.

Eli! Kat let go of Erica and threw her arms around her brother. When did you blow into town?

Yesterday. Mom says to wish you a Happy Birthday from her and Paul and I wanted to give you this in person. He handed Kat a box.

Eli thank you. Do Daddy and Sarah know youre here?

Nope I wanted my visit to be a surprise so I bunked with Uncle Lucas and Aunt Jamie last night. I knew if I stayed with Dad and Sarah theyd blow my cover.

Well I am really glad youre here.

Kat open the present already. Erica urged.

Good idea. Kat ripped off the wrapping paper and then opened the flat box to reveal a velvet covered jewelry box. Eli what did you do?

Open it.

Kat opened the box to reveal a charm bracelet filled with many different charms. Eli its beautiful.

It better be. I put a lot of thought into what to get my favorite sister for her eighteenth birthday.

Eli I love it. But you know its customary for a person to fill a charm bracelet over time.

Well I know but the bracelet and one charm are from me. I talked to Nicole and Eric and Dad and Sarah and they all agreed to get the family in on it and once they had all bought the charms they sent them to me and I put them on. Dont worry theres plenty of room for more.

Eli this is a wonderful present. Thank you so much. Ill cherish it always.

I know you will and to make sure you wear it at least once a year Im gonna get you a charm every year on your birthday.

Thank you Eli. She gave her brother one last hug before she had him clasp the bracelet on.

The seashells from me Kat, to remind you of all times we go to the beach. Erica said importantly.

I love it Erica.

The bats from me Kat to remind you of all the times we played baseball when we were kids. Nick said as he fingered the afore mentioned charm.

I figured. After all you taught me how to pitch. Kat hugged Nick.

Happy birthday. I love you sis.

Thanks Nick. I love you too.

I love you Kat.

I love you, too, Erica. Kat hugged her twelve-year-old sister before Nick and Erica went off in search of food and Eli put an arm around Kat as they started to make their way to the bar for a drink. So which of the charms is from you?

The plane to remind you of all the times we took trips together with Dad and Sarah.

Those trips are some of my best memories.

Mine too.

So how long are you here for?

The truth? As long as Dad and Sarah will have me. Kat stopped mid stride and looked at Eli.

What?

Living with Mom and her new husband is not working so Im gonna ask Dad if I can live here.

With him and Sarah?

Well unless he and Sarah arent living together anymore yeah.

Youre not kidding.

No Im not. I love Mom but Paul and Grandma are getting on my last nerve.

Ive heard Mike say Claire McIntyre was-

Overbearing?

To put it nicely.

Well she is and I cant take it anymore. The way she ridicules Mom just gets to me.

I know. Kat gave Eli a hug and over his shoulder she saw her step-cousin, Kimmy Kelly giving Elis butt the eye. Pulling back she gave Eli a smile.

What?

You have an admirer.

I do?

Kimmy Kelly.

Really? Shes cute if I remember right.

Cute and Salems resident wild child. Gives her mother a run for her money.

Mother?

Sammi Kelly.

Oh. Well wheres Kimmy?

Behind you at the corner table.

She alone?

Yes.

Wish me luck.

Luck. Eli took a deep breath before he went to sit down across from Kimmy.

Kat shook her head and made a mental note to have a long talk with Eli about Sammi and Austins history together. She smiled her thanks at Shawn as he gave her a soda. As she turned around she slammed into a strong body and her soda went all over his shirt.

Oh my God! Kat said horrified. I am so sorry. She looked at him. Oh God he would have to be gorgeous.

Its okay. I wasnt paying attention to where I was going.

Well neither was I. Ill pay to have your shirt cleaned.

Its okay. Really.

Really?

Really.

Oh thank you so much. Im Kat by the way.

Shawn Douglas.

Brady?

Yeah.

Wow.

Have we met?

A long time ago. Im Katrina Walker-Reed.

Oh. Wow you look great.

You too. Even with my soda all over you.

Thanks. Hey I heard a wild rumor that its your birthday. Is that true?

Yes it is.

Well happy birthday.

Thank you. Welcome home.

Thanks. I guess Ill see you around?

Absolutely. Kat smiled before she walked around Shawn Douglas and over to her mother and Eric who smiled at her.

Later that night Kat saw Shawn Douglas again talking to his sister Faith Brady and she smiled in remembrance of her birthday wish for that year. She had wished to meet someone special. Someone to fall in love with. Maybe, just maybe shed get her wish this year.
