Sisterly Bonding- Katrina and Erica
Erica Brady brushed her long blonde hair as she looked at herself in the mirror. It was early Saturday morning and she was preparing for a sailing expedition with Jimmy Roberts. Jimmy. She sighed when his name entered her thoughts. James William Roberts was perfect. Born on the same day she was, he never noticed that she was little and he never made fun of her because of her learning disability. Pulling her hair back she conceded that he wasnt absolutely perfect. He was a little dense when it came to her crush on him.
Erica? Her older sisters voice brought her out of her musings and back down to earth and her room. Turning she saw her half-sister Katrina Walker-Reed framed in the doorway of Ericas bedroom. The two girls had shared a bathroom from the time Erica was born when Kat was six and Nick and Ericas half-brother Adam shared another bathroom.
Whats up Kat?
Just wanted to see if you wanted to hit the mall with me and Lucy. She said smiling as she named her cousin. Were going shopping for dresses for Lucas and Jamies anniversary party next week.
Thats okay I have plans. Erica smiled.
Oh, really? Who with? Could it be with my cousin Jimmy? Kat teased a little.
Yes. Erica admitted shyly as she turned red.
Katrina came in and shut the door behind her before shutting the door leading from Ericas bedroom to the hallway and sitting down on her sisters bed. Cmere Erica. She said patting a space next to her. Erica sat down next her sister and looked at her expectantly. You like Jimmy a lot huh?
Does it really show?
Well yes.
Then how come he doesnt pick up on it? Erica asked frustrated.
Because guys at that age are really dense. Actually Er, guys at any age are dense. Aunt Jamie told me once that until she spelled it out for Uncle Lucas he had no clue she liked him and look at them now. Theyre married.
But I really want Jimmy to pick up on it. I dont have Jamies guts. I couldnt just spell it out for Jimmy.
Have you dropped hints?
Kat Ive dropped anvils and he still isnt getting it.
Work at it a little harder.
And if it doesnt work?
Then hes not worth it. He gets a F in Erica.
But I want him to get an A and one of those gold stars.
Erica some guys are just not worth the effort.
Jimmy is and hes your cousin. How come youre not supporting this?
Sweetie I would like nothing better than to see you and Jimmy happy together but if its not meant to be then its not meant to be.
Kat did you ever think any of those guys in high school and you were meant to be?
Sweetie I knew none of those guys and me were meant to be.
Really?
Yeah.
Do you think youll ever find your meant to be?
Maybe. Kat smiled a little.
Kat?
What?
Youve got a crush.
I do not. Kat denied.
Do too. Cmon Kat who is he?
Promise not to tell? I havent told anyone and I wasnt planning on it.
I wont tell. Promise.
Okay you know your dads cousin?
Which one?
Shawn Douglas.
Faiths older brother? You really like him?
I think I do. I spilled soda on him the night of his welcome home party and he was so sweet about it. Any other guy would have bit my head off. But not him. He even wished me a happy birthday.
Really?
Yeah.
What about Roman Kelly?
Romans nice and all hes just not what Im looking for, ya know?
Do you think Shawn Douglas is?
He could be. Oh listen to me I dont even know him.
So get to know him.
How? The Brady family isnt exactly crazy about me.
This Brady is and so are Nick and Adam.
Thanks Er. Maybe I will try and get to know Shawn Douglas.
And Im gonna drop so many hints to Jimmy hell think its raining.
Good for you.
Hey Kat! Adam Caldwell-Bradys drifted up from downstairs.
Yeah Adam?
Lucys here.
Okay. Kat turned back to Erica. Have fun today, okay?
You too. Maybe we can go shopping tomorrow and you can help me pick out a dress?
Its a plan. Kat got up and left Ericas room. Erica got off her bed and walked back to her mirror and looked at herself. With different fathers she and Kat didnt really resemble each other all that much but they did look a little bit alike when they smiled which Erica did now.
Thanks Kat. She whispered.
