Girl Talk- Circa 2014

By Lori

"Hey Faith?" Katrina Walker-Reed said to her friend as they hung out in Kat's room at the Reed-Horton homestead one lazy summer afternoon.

"Yeah?" the fellow fourteen-year-old said as she played with her hair.

"Who do you think you'll fall in love with?"

"Only you would ask that Kat." Andi Kiriakis remarked to her niece as she had her hair braided by Lucy Roberts.

"What's wrong with the question?" Kat demanded.

"Nothing." Lyssa Horton said as she painted her toe nails a pale purple color. "It's just a Kat question."

"I hate to say it Kat."

"Then don't Luce." Kat cut her cousin off before turning back to Faith. "And as for you, answer the question."

"What was it again?" Faith asked.

"Who do you think you'll fall in love with?" Kat repeated with a touch of impatience.

"Well," Faith said as she left her hair go and turned onto her stomach, "he'll be... Hmm. To tell you the truth I never really thought about it before."

"Really?" Kat asked.

"Really. What about you?"

"Well he'll have to be understanding and very patient."

"Why?" Lucy asked.

"Because until I know I am truly in love I am not having sex."

"Good for you." Lyssa said encouragingly to her step-cousin.

"A little twentieth century for my tastes but whatever floats your boat, cousin." Lucy added.

"He'll also have to be understanding when it comes to certain members of my family." Kat added.

"Such as?" Andi asked.

"Riley for one."

"Austin for another." Lucy said, making a slight face.

"Billie." Andi said in a rare show of criticism.

"Well I think it's safe to say that any guy any one of us falls for is going to have to be one of the nicest most understanding guys on the planet." Faith said.

"I guess that lets out Vic." Kat said.

"Or Shawn D." Faith said. "I love my brother but he is not among the understanding members of my family."

"Working all over the world can change that." Andi said.

"Maybe." Faith said. "What about you Lyssa? Who do you see yourself falling in love with?"

"Someone older probably. Can't see myself with anyone in my class."

"No cuties at The Immaculate Heart huh?" Kat teased. "Well I wouldn't worry. There are cuties at Salem and Lincoln High. Whichever one you end up at."

"Mom wants me to go to Salem High School like she did and Dad wants me to go to Lincoln High with the rest of the Hortons." Lyssa said. "So I really don't know where I'm going."

"Consider yourself lucky you're going to a public high school. I'm going back to Westborough." Andi groaned.

"Yeah but it's your last year." Lucy said.

"Yeah but I hate the uniforms and I hate not being able to go home at night."

"Well it prepares you for college."

"I'll be going to St. Charles University or Salem U."

"What about Julliard?"

"Or the concert circuit?" Lucy added to Faith's question. "That's all Grandma Kate talks about lately."

"I'm interested in it."

"But?" Kat prompted.

"But I'm not sure it's what I want to do for the rest of my life."

"Have you talked to Kate?" Lyssa asked.

"No not yet. I just wanna think on it a little while longer."

"Probably a good idea." Faith said before glancing out the window. "Oh wow I didn't realize how late it was getting. I promised Mom I'd help her and Aunt Kayla at the pub tonight." She said as she got up.

"I gotta go to." Lucy said as she stood up. "Daddy wants to talk to me about business school again."

"Hasn't gotten the point where he accepts that it ain't gonna happen huh?"

"Not yet." Lucy said pulling on a light jacket. "I guess I'll see you all later."

"Bye Luce."

"Lucy wait up I'll walk out with you." Faith said as she too left.

"Lyssa, Andi, do you two wanna stay for dinner?"

"I can't. Daddy's having some clients to the house for dinner and he wants me and Phillip there." Andi said.

"I can't either. There's some dinner for the hospital board that Dad wants us all to go to." Lyssa said as she finished drying her nails.

"Okay. Then I guess I'll see you all next week?"

"Same bat time."

"Same bat channel." Andi finished as Kat walked her and Lyssa to the front door.

"Bye guys." Kat said as Andi and Lyssa got into Andi's car. Kat watched them drive away before she shut the door and went back inside. Going back to her room she ran into her brother Eli.

"So did your coffee klatch leave?"

"Yes they're gone."

"What do you do in there all afternoon?"

"Something you wouldn't understand Eli."

"And what's that?"

"Girl talk." Kat said smiling.
