Merry Christmas Andi by

Molly

"I don't suppose you'd want to tell me what's wrong, would you?" Adam asked. Andi shook her head. "OK, I don't suppose you'd want me to guess either, huh?" She shook her head again. "Or maybe I should paint myself red and green and run nekkid down this street. I'm sure the nuns at St. Luke's won't mind." She began to shake her head, then she realized what she said. "Just seeing if you were paying attention," he grinned.

"Thanks," she said. She looked up for the first time since they left the bar. As if she was realizing he was there for the first time. "I'm sorry if I ruined your night. You should be enjoying your Christmas Eve with your freiends, not escorting some crazy woman home in a snow-storm."

Adam looked up at the lonely snowflakes scattered across the sky. "I was getting tired of the party anyway. Who wants to get knocked around a dancefloor? And this is hardly a snowstorm."

"Thanks," she sniffed. She shivered as they passed St. Luke's. Her tears were beginning to freeze to her cheeks. He reached up and wiped them away.

"You warm enough?" She nodded. He took the scarf from his collar and wound it around her throat, tucking it under chin.

"Thanks," she said.

They turned into the park.

"So, do I get any clue as to why I'm out here walking in the snow? You seemed to be having a pretty good time up until ten minutes ago. Careful!" He grabbed her arms as she slipped a little on an icy patch of sidewalk.

"Have you ever had something come into your life, something you had needed all of your life and not even known it. And once you got used to the idea - poof- it's gone?" she said. "And just when you think you're over it, it comes back to remind you it's gone?" She grabbed his arm as she slipped again. He lost his balance and swept her legs out from under her. They landed with a dull thud. "And just when you think you're back on your feet, you get knocked on your ass." she muttered.
