This provided the perfect basis for the hard-swinging jazz style that Garner was to pioneer. By the age of eleven he was playing on the Allegheny riverboats. By the 1950's Garner had established an international reputation. He made countless tours both at home and abroad and produced a huge volume of recorded work. |
| Rudy Vallee started his career as a saxophone player and later became a band leader.
