Lost your speaker volume control? - Open the multimedia control panel and check the "Show Volume Control" box - if that doesn't work it might not be installed - using the Windows steup tab in Add/Remove programs control panel. Look in the Multimedia options area.
Need to get to your desktop again while in another program - press the flying window or esc+ctrl - press r  then press period - then press enter.  Use a \ instead of the period and you will see your root directory.  Use .. and you will see the windows directory.
Find a file fast - just press f3 and then type in the name.
Increase your windows performance
Like the way Windows95 showed your start programs in multiple columns -
Run REGEDIT (start, run, regedit)
Find the following key, HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer
Within the explorer folder, click the advanced folder once to select it
Right-click and unoccupied area in the right-handed pane. Click New, then string value
In the name box type, StartMenuScrollPrograms (all one Word), then press enter
Right-click in the name you just created, then click modify. In the Value Data box type FALSE, then click OK.
Exit regedit - you may need to reboot to see your changes.
