Faith Journal

One paragraph summary of the key idea summarizing the major idea of the section.
Faith exists in two forms, secular and religious. The secular form defines faith as complete trust in something, even when they don't necessarily have facts backing it. Secular faith can be thought of as a "calculated risk,"(RB, 91) because it's something we can't be sure of but believe anyway. Religious Faith is "an intellectual assent to a loving God and His revelation."(RB, 92) It is a thoughtful human acceptance to God.

List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this week.
Nihilism - Nihilism is the philosophy that nothing can be proven and there is no truth. Nihilists believe that the universe is always changing and morality and truth change with it. They believe that there is no real order to the universe and we can never understand it. The main problem with nihilism is that they don't believe in reason but use reason to come to that conclusion. It's a self-contradicting theory.
The Golden Way of Faith - This is a way of looking at beliefs and finding that faith is the true golden way. Rather than radicalism, which has total beliefs without any reason, or nihilism which has reason but no beliefs, faith uses reason to come to beliefs. Faith realizes that it can't be completely certain but still has trust enough to believe.
The Secular Idea of Faith - The secular idea of faith is that it is complete trust. It is something that most every human has a lot of even if they don't realize it. Every time we go into a building, we have faith that the foundation won't collapse. People are using faith all the time.

One or two good images of that remind you of key ideas.

One good question you should keep with you to ponder.
What am I doing to both increase my faith and make sure I am putting faith in the correct beliefs?

What should you try to do to make you a better person, a more faithful person, from this study?
I should try to examine my beliefs and make sure that my faith is being built on the right things. I should make sure that I am not falling victim to radicalism or nihilism in any aspects of my life.
