During this section we studied the basis of philosophy and morality. We learned about the beginnings of philosophy, such as Plato's allegory of the cave and Socrates' "the unexamined life is not worth living." These were the beginning of western philosophy and the foundation on which future philosophy was built. We also studied Jesus' four main teachings. These are the most important moral standards that Jesus left us with. We used these to start our faith and morality section. The main idea of the section was to build a foundation for what we will be learning the rest of the year.
A) Plato's allegory of the cave - This is the story that Plato used to explain life. There are prisoners in a cave that only see shadows. Since it is all that they know, they believe that it is reality. When a man is released, he first experiences pain and disbelief at the outside world. Eventually he adapts to it and can see reality clearly. When he returns to the cave he has trouble seeing things the way he used to, because he now knows the true reality. The other prisoners ridicule him and eventually kill him because of what he tells them about the outside world.
B) Jesus main teachings -These are as follows:
C) Icarus and Daedalus - This is a story about acting without considering the consequences. Daedalus makes wings for his son, Icarus, and him to escape the Labyrinth. Icarus is so caught up in the excitment of flying that he disobeys his fathers advice by flying too close to the sun. The wax in his wings melts and he falls to his death in the ocean.

One thing that I want to do to make me a better person is to really try to examine my life. I don't want to be going through life without purpose and deliberation in the things that I do. I hope to make good decisions and learn from them.
