I am no longer the only developer. kevin's back, mwahahaha. we're discussing splitting it back into parts, split by world/environment. there will be 5 or 6 seperate downloadable clusters again, ran by a single program, which we're planning tonight. when each cluster is finished, as before, it will be released singley. cluster 1 will come in a month or two (or three or five) and instead of just being a demo version, it will be the official first cluster. the rest will come in order and take who knows how long to work on. the cd version is still definetly an idea as a secondary option when the game is completely finished instead of downloading the large clusters (they'll be in triple-digit MBs)

Screenshots started. 6 for glacial caverns, 1 for fungus fields (more to come soon). I'm completely redoing 'Absinthe Labyrinth' if i didn't mention that before. the original 'torture zone' level it came from sucked so bad it can't be remodeled to anything worth playing (though the deathmatch version kicks ass, so it might be salvaged somehow if not in a mission pack with the original level 3: demon empire which was also canned. GLACIAL CAVERNS has been released a while back on doomworld and it hit the /newstuff chronicles with a good review (except for their hate for the ss nazis and former humans in it) the new absinthe labyrinthe will focus on gameplay the most, er not really, more like 'difficulty' since it will consist of mostly maze after maze in dark green ooze light with a perfect drug style sky (yes i stole the only word i could think of to rhyme with labyrinthe from the nine inch nails video, but i always wanted a completely green level that had darkness plus glowing green stuff that wasn't nukage, more like slime) page 9-10 have the screenshots i added, click glacial caverns to preview the level. the download link for it is broke however. if you can fish around the 3darchives.in-span.net ftp server to find it, then be my guest. please email me if you find it. thanx and the next level to come out will probably be the fungus fields, since it's pretty much done. either that or the forest level (i probably won't release the entombed level independantly since its the first part of skull island and playing the full release with the story would be like a rerun at first and people would skip it and miss out on the plot)

woohoo!!! i got the glacial caverns level to work again. now.. i need 2 more parts added to it... (the fourth small sub-level that opens something elsewhere) it was finished but it needs ENHANCED, and the boss scene, which also was finished but erased since the '99 release and needs enhanced

SOON I WILL HAVE ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE WEBSITE FOR LOKI... a condensed website for loki with just the shit that's done so far, with screenshots of random levels that are ready to be seen, a couple level downloads (glacial caverns for now, maybe fungus fields and forest of decay after they're remodeled & finished) and the soundtrack sample. this will hopefully be better than flipping through pages of a mostly-empty webbook waiting for the backgrounds to load (well they preload on this page at the bottom if you wait, but still) i'll probably have this worked on tomorrow since i'm off again. 'Glacial Caverns' should be released sometime this week(end)

ok i planned on finishing and releasing a couple levels as singles with embedded music, textures, and the old cheezy sprites just to serve as a pre-demo but the file size was waaaaay too big. i think i'll have two options for downloading the game... lofi, and hifi mp3s... also... the option to pay like 5 bucks and get it all on cd shipped to you with shipping in the u.s. free (thus 5 bucks would be the charge making it simple: price including shipping, handling, burning, the cdr, etc) sound alright? on my b-day i'm getting a deal on a dvd-r, so maybe i can round up all the new and old tcs i can find and also offer a dvdr for 10 bucks or something. i dunno. i'm just brainfarting again.

Well it looks like i'm ready to get back to manipulating the actual loki game itself. i went out at like 5 in the morning the other night and got a 3-ring zipper/trapper like thing and some 3 ring graph paper. whenever there's blank time and i'm somewhere where there's no computer (and no one can see me) i whip it out. no, the zipper/keeper thing. NO. the graph paper! since i'm not in high school anymore and haven't been for 3 years now, i'm perfectly fine with being king geek most of the time. i'm trying to completely epitomize every detail aspect of the main hub (level start with portals) to each map in loki. every level is getting design touch-ups wherever possible, and object placement will be paid attention to a lot as well. most of the levels will have a completely new beginning hub from scratch. since the theme of the levels has changed from their non-themeable old thrown-together names in nightmares of loki to more official doable titles, i've made sure the level called 'glacial caverns' is in fact a cavern completely frozen over, and that 'forest of decay' really is a forest, instead of being a thrown-together make what you want of it level it once was called 'mortal point'. i'm going all the way with this one. one thing, however, i'm not sure if the demo needs to have the plot. at least not the first demo, i might re-release a smaller 7-level demo when i finish the official 'loki's realm' sometime before or during the beginning months of 2003.

Ok i went to work and clocked in at 6 today, stood up front because they didn't assign us areas yet, and waited for 40 minutes to be told to go home. oh well, 2 hours automatic pay for nothing. anyway THERE'S SOMETHING TO DOWNLOAD! i figured it'd be good to put SOMETHING up before i upload this website. so now there is a 9-minute collage of samples of different clips from different levels. you can find those on page 29 i think. if you don't want to wait for the flash flipper thing to load, just click table of contents and go to page 29. i might work on making this page load faster soon. all i really need to do for the background jpegs is change to low quality, but the flash page-flippers kinda suck. they're relatively small but i might combine them sometime into one simple applet that has the entire book in command. i just haven't written anything in flash for a year or so. i never really got into learning flash a whole lot.

and now for something completely beyond digression: NEVER EAT BURGER KING TACOS NO MATTER HOW CURIOUS OR BROKE YOU ARE. the put a slice of cheese, some lettuce, and some ketchup on a poor substitute for leftover meat they were going to throw out seasoned with something other than taco seasoning. i think they used tamole seasoning or something. is this freedom of speech and expression or slander? fxck it, its a messiah-like thing to do. at least the shells kick ass. i'd prefer a burger king shell over taco bells anyday. only with taco bell fillings inside it of course.

Now progress is happening faster. i was away or asleep most of today but now the book is done, there are just more blank pages than ones with stuff on them : )~ the 36-page loki's realm book/website foundation has been laid, now to fill in the pages. most of the actual game content can't be placed on the pages provided because... well... its not finished/started yet. especially the 'naughty bastards' (enemies). they won't be on the page until the end of july when i can even work on them. i'm working more on the soundtrack now than anything. i'm holding out on finishing the levels for a while until i can get the plot finished to be based around them. i might have to do some rearranging again. i might put this page up somewhere in hopes doomworld will host it even though there's nothing to really show but this page.

The website is sort of in the works now. 5 pages are done, haha. ok 6 if you count the cover. i did take the 9 background page pictures i had planned, giving them both a left and right side to total 18 backgrounds, 19 counting the cover. so far i wrote the 2 about the author pages, the overview page, the table of contents (page numbers and content will most likely change completely) and this news page, that isn't really part of the book, and right now i have never had to piss so bad in my life. just thought i'd share that with you. you're welcome.

Oh yeah, in case i never mentioned this, practically all levels are already made, they're all going to be detailed further and fit to the new texturing and atmosphere settings. most have been scattered around from the original 'nightmares of loki' arrangement

My scattered brain has settled somewhere between 30 and 32 levels, one main wad, full soundtrack throughout (which is why i wanted to jump back to making this game), md2 models, and hi-res textures. all is started but the models. those start in july when the second generation model pack is released. i think i have the main plot figured out, i just have to write 32 dialogues for 5 main clusters. the 5 subplots haven't been figured out, they'll probably just be nonexistant to the plot, just level theme seperations. anyway i've started on this website now. i'll just work on the pages then fill them in later. i still have to make more backgrounds to the pages but that part was fun, so fxck it.

First day of work tonight. can't sleep. i work 6pm to 6am. so i probably won't work on jack shit for a while. monday and tuesday i'll be off but i'll be helping my girlfriend find a new car. i recently planned a split of the game into 6 parts, but even if i can't go past map30/32, i'll try to at least have two main wads now if not just one. maybe i'll throw out the first episode/atmosphere as a demo / shareware to a free game. i'm kind of stuck on how to do voiceovers for the big plot, i still have to fill in the story. lets just say its like a black and white generic picture and i haven't colored between any of the lines at all or detailed anything, but i have millions of ideas in my head, its just getting them on paper that's the hard part, and no matter what, as typical for anything, the finished product will never look as good as i think it does in my head.

hmm... this will probably be big, so as an alternate option we're probably going to have the download section for loki split into models, textures, music, jdoom, and the main loki game files... then a cdr will also be available with everything already set up and ready for just the price of shipping and handling and maybe a couple bucks for the time spent burning it onto the cd and the cd itself, since this is a port of doom (even though the source code was released years ago), and we didnt write the complete engine or anything. That's just a thought though

Site Started... Ok work is already in progress here and there. i resurrected my old game 'Nightmares of Loki' and we're currently tearing the shit out of it and porting it to jdoom.
Planned enhancements:

doom 2 version: 32 levels (no secret levels, all combined) of 4 main clusters. Doom episode names and level names changed rearranged & enhanced. MD2 models to replace sprites (once the new compatible models are complete (they said july) we'll make our own. Hi-Res Textures will hopefully be implemented instead of being forced to use the original doom palette. and my favorite enhancement -- NEW MUSIC. not the old midi bullshit that used to be the only option for doom, but mp3 music we made ourselves. oh yeah, and another main enhancement.. the reason we decided to resurrect this game and work on it in the first place... DEATHMATCH. each level has either been completely changed around with deathmatch in mind or seperate sections for deathmatch only have been created. depends on which level. couldn't leave that one alone, loki deathmatch. it just had to be done. jdoom deathmatch has a few little problems but we tried fixing it so deathmatch would work in jdoom too in case you still want to play some zdoom loki with old textures sprites and cheezy midi music for some reason.
