While the Globe is amazed by China's rapid
economic growth, officials of China
are investigating the future path in all seriousness ...
In the last few years, heavy industries in China
such as metal casting, ceramic, chemicals, etc. have become the key driving
force for GDP growth. However, the energy intensive nature of these
industries has created remarkable energy supply issues for the
country. Another key point is how energy, the country's nature
resources, is being utilized. As of now, many
products from those sectors are low margin
commodities even though volume could be large. This would mean that GDP
generated per unit energy is very low. A further problem is that since China's
energy structure is heavily coal-based, serious population is the
consequence directly associated with increasing energy usage.
This presentation [LONDON_PREZ.pdf]
explores some of the above issues and the related business opportunities. It
was presented in the London
conference "Climate Change: The Business Forecast" on 6th Oct., 2005.
