| Pete Runnels born in Lufkin Texas and married Betty Ruth Hinton (my aunt). Uncle Pete began his career in Chickasha Oklahoma in 1949, played for Texarkana and Chattanooga before signing with the Washington Senators in 1951. Pete was traded in 1958 to the Boston Red Soxs. He posted batting marks of .322, .314, .320, .317 and .328 from 58 to 62. Pete was American League Batting Champion in 60 and 62, lost a third on the last day of the 58 season to Ted Williams, and came in 3rd in 59. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Pete played all three infield positions, and even managed the Red Sox after leaving the Houston Colt 45s. Pete scored a home run in the 1962 All Star Game and finished a 14 year career with a life time batting average of .294. Pete retired to his home in Passadena Texas where he owned a sporting goods store and ran a sports camp near Johnson City Texas. Pete was a great man on and off the field.
