MOVIE & TELEVISION REVIEWS:

Movies:

Moulin Rouge - starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman by Baz Luhrmann. A simple love story, a story of love but the production is what's amazing. It's a comedy, tragedy, musical, and opera all thrown in together. Ewan and Nicole have the most amazing voices - who knew Ewan could be a rock God? The colors and costumes will blow you away. The cinematography and the editing was simply perfection. What else can I say but that you have never seen anything like this before. I highly recommend the soundtrack. (A+) ~Julie

Memento - starring Guy Pearce A man who cannot form short term memory is looking for vengance on the man who killed his wife. The only way he can remember what he is doing and who he is looking for is by having the facts tattooed on his body and he takes polaroids of people and places and writes notes on it - he can only trust his own handwriting. The film works backwards - it can be a bit confusing so you have to be a hundred percent attentive. Very original, and Guy is a hottie. (A)

Charlie's Angels - Good 'ol fashion fun entertainment. Drew, Cameron, and Lucy are great as the angels. It's definitely a campy type of movie. Lots of Matrix-like special effects and fighting sequences. The plot is not significant, it's just a funny no brainer, action flick. I could have done without Bill Murray. Overall, because of it's entertainment value, I give it a B+. (Julie)

Venus Beauty Institute - a French film, so yes, another sub-titled movie. As with most of my artsy films, this one has no major plot. It revolves around the lives of the women who work in this beauty spa. One is young and innocent, one is trampy and one is older and afraid of getting hurt so she avoids any sort of real relationships and only searches out one night stands until a complete stranger declares his love for her after overhearing her conversation with a man she slept with. B+ (Julie)

Almost Famous: I've always loved the 70's and have often said that i was born in the wrong decade. "Almost Famous" by Cameron Crowe - it was amazing. and my sweetie Jason Lee was amazing. It was an incredible movie. it's based on Cameron Crowe. it is a must see. (Julie)

The Wisdom of Crocodiles. Starring Jude Law-need I say more? The Brits are here indeed. Jude Law plays a medical researcher, Steven Crslcz, who literally cannot live without a woman's love and passion. When a woman falls in love with him he feeds on their blood vampire style, but not really. It is an interesting story line though a couple of scenes made no sense at all. As a Jude Law and artsy flick fan, I give it a B. I may be a bit biased. 98 minutes. (Julie)

Scary Movie. The trailer was much more enjoyable. The movie was extremely ridiculous at points though it had some good one liners. Overall, I was not impressed and give it a C rating. It was about 80 minutes long. (Julie)

Almost Famous - by Cameron Crowe - this movie is based on Crowe's teenage life - mainly 1973 when he was a rock journalist for Creme magazine and then Rolling Stones Magazine. It documents his life on the road with a fictional band, Stillwater, and some groupies who called themselves band aids and not groupies. If you are a fan of the seventies and music or really love music, this is a must see. Jason Lee, Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson, and Patrick Fugit give outstanding performances. Also has an amazing soundtrack. A+

Yi Yi
by Edward Yang - a Taiwanese movie - yes, subtitles. Focuses on a family - no twisted plot, just about life. The 8 year old boy seems to be the most profound of them all. A three hour movie but most definitely worth a watch. A+

The Perfect Storm. Julie says, "Read the book. Again, Hollywood turns a book of integrity to one of those typical "Hollywood" movies. The dialogue was embarrassing to listen to."

House on Haunted Hill. Jeremy and Linnet say, "DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY RENTING THIS AWFUL MOVIE". It could have been good, if they would have done what they started out to do in the beginning which was to make the viewer think it was all a joke (kind of like April Fool's Day). Instead, they have reached a new level of retardedness.

Television:

Freaks and Geeks: (Saturday - 8pm, Channel 4) 3 final episodes for those die hard fans of this cancelled NBC 1 hour long series. A+ (Julie)

Survivor: (Wednesday - 8pm, Channel 2) With its concept being on the Road Rules side, it still manages to be an interesting show, giving the viewers a chance to see what lengths the average person will go to for $1,000,000. Even if you've missed the first few episodes, it's worth checking out. A+ (Linnet)

Big Brother: (It doesn't matter, don't watch it) It had the potential for being a good show. Could conversations get any more boring? Quite simply, the show sucks. F- (Jeremy)

Making the Band: (Friday - 9pm, Channel 7) 5 band members have been chosen-they are now following them through rehearsals for their first performance. Honestly, I don't care for any of the members, I have no empathy for any of them. I think they are all a bit immature, have no sense of responsibility, can't sing, can't dance, yet I am addicted to this show. For the record, I am not a fan of "boy bands". (Julie)
